Hey guys, thanks for letting me join the group! I just brought home my new p9 and had a few quick questions. Ive cleaned and prepped my weapon per the prep guide supplied by this forum, however my trigger seems to feel a little "gritty" or "crunchy" during take up. It's not so much tactile (although I do feel it a bit) but the crunching noise is very audible. Is this normal for a khar? Is there some way to reduce it and smooth the trigger action or will it go away over time as it breaks in? Also, i have not fired the gun yet but there are some scrape marks on the back end of the barrel near the extractor (presumably from racking the slide or disassembly. Did I do something wrong that caused the slide/extractor to rub on the barrel? Or is this normal? Ill supply a picture to show what I mean.

Thanks in advance.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160305/7e1c83deafc1cc4dca4b5d966102deab.jpg

Welcome to the forums:)

It's not normal for Kahr triggers to "feel a little "gritty" or "crunchy" during take up", but we do hear of it time to time.
My first thought would be for you to lube it up and put some rounds down range.
If that doesn't work:
Pull the slide off and try the trigger, if the grittiness is gone then I'd suspect the slide needs to be disassembled and cleaned (also check the striker surface where it engages the cocking cam).
If the grittiness is still there, work the trigger while watching where the trigger bar spring engages the trigger bar. If it looks like the spring is catching
anywhere that might be the source of the grittiness. Otherwise try to clean between the trigger bar and the frame/side plate.

I'd say those "marks" on the barrel fall into the category of normal...as I type, I have a CW45 and a .45ACP XD-S close at hand, both have marks in that same area.

Regards,
Greg

Thanks for the quick response. I went to the range today and broke her in with 250 rounds (with 0 malfunctions I'm happy to report) and the grittiness seems to have lessened a bit. I'll check the trigger assembly with the slide off tommorow during cleaning.

My CW380 has the same issue. Buttery smooth is more like crunchy peanut butter. I'll try what was suggested too.

Greg is as usual spot on. I'd tend to lean towards the trigger spring hitting a rough spot on the tigger bar.

Sometimes a little bit of grease at that point helps/fixes it. Sometimes a little stoning or sandpaper is needed to smooth it up.

With enough shooting, dry firing that would eventually smooth itself up no doubt but you can speed it up considerable with a little cleaning up on the trigger bar.

Upon initial brand new delivery, my PM9's entire action and trigger feel was absolutely gritty. I cleaned/lubed and took it to the range. Now many, many hundreds of rounds later it is nothing short of slippery smooth perfect.

Shoot it. Congratulations.

Something similar happened to me when I first bought my K9, which is similar to your P9. What happened with mine was there was a small burr on the trigger bar that was catching on the spring. I took one of my wifes nail files & some Rem-oil and knocked it down and now it's smooth as glass. If you can get the right tool, I think its a torq bit & remove that side panel on top of the R/H grip you should be able to get to that spring & trigger bar. Pull the trigger slowly & watch it, i bet you have a small burr that's catching the spring...

I found another area on the poly that may be causing the problem. I was going to attach a pic but guess I'm not permitted.
