Hey Guys,
I own several Glocks, this Kahr PM9 is my first.
First thing I noticed was some powder residue like mark
on the 9x19 marking of the barrel.

I asked the dealer what it was, he said powder residue.
(Fired 2x for shell casings) before I received it.
He said some solvent would clean it right up.

Well, I just attempted to remove the marking with solvent, no luck.
The rest of the barrel is fine and clean.
Is this normal? All the Kahr's I've seen look clean and sharp.
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

did you get it new or used? Mine has some wear and scratches in that same area from going under the slide during recoil, but I don't have any powder stuff there.

What you see will not get any worse.

Got it brand new, thats whats bugging me.

I'm headed back to the dealer this afternoon.
Considering what I paid for it (NYC Prices!), I am not keeping
it if I'm not happy with it.

The dealer told me solvent would clean the stain, big negative.
So it's going back.

So you have not fired any rounds?

How can he say it had powder residue if it was new and not been fired?

They are test fired at the factory. Wait for others to comment.

I have a bench grinder that I installed buffing wheels on and I polished the barrels of all of my semi-auto pistols to a high shine. They look great and are really easy to clean. If you have a Dremel tool you can put on a felt wheel and use the Dremel polishing rouge to do the same thing-it'll just take loooonger!

The DEALER told me it was powder residue. For NYC, 2 shell casings are required for records. He said the marks came from that.

All the other Kahrs I've seen look great, even after 1000 rounds through them. No barrel looks like mine and it's new!

Not keeping it.

Ok.

Tell "the dealer" to clean it. Are you going to get another one?

For my two cents I'm with copterdrvr, I'd polish it. I'd polish the whole barrel myself but some polish just the hood area.
It just looks cool and can't help but make things all work slicker too.
If your concerned about it and the dealer doesn't do anything for you which he probably won't, not sure theres anything he can do except maybe send it back to Kahr for you, it's serial numbered and registered to you now. Can't just swap it out. You could contact Kahr yourself with pics and see if they'll send you a new barrel.
Don't loose faith, its cosmetic. I agree with you that it should look nice and pretty and run perfectly. They dont give them away, but give everyone a chance to make it right.

Well, the dealer said it would come off with some solvent, but it didn't. I say take it back and have the dealer remove it, or replace the barrel. While I'm a polisher also, I will NEVER understand why any manufacturer OR dealer would sell a product looking like that. Maybe the dealer didn't open the box until the sale, but I believe he should have cleaned it on the spot.

My PM9 barrel looked like yours (minus the grunge marks!) when I received it.
This is how it looks now:

It's probably kinda hard to tell what it really looks like, but that's because it's so darned shiny and reflected the flash pretty bad!!! ;-)

Shoulda done a better job of wiping off the fingerprints and such before taking the pics!

copterdrvr .....That what a barrel should look like.

kid9p....The stain you have is hard for me to believe came from firing 2 shells. Get it cleaned or get a new one. You should not have to do extra work to a new gun to make it look acceptable. If it looks acceptable and you want it to look even better then its on you. Not before that. you pay alot for a kahr it should not look like the barrel was a Kel Tec reject.

I tried to make 'em clearer and whatnot-still didn't get all my fingerprints off and lots of glare. I give up but you get the message!!!

Went back to the dealer earlier.
He grabbed some Flitz and a qtip....15 seconds later it was clean as a whistle.
So all is well. Gotta go for inspection tomorrow, then to the range this weekend. I'll give you guys a range report:supergrin:

Thanks for the help guys.

I just love happy endings. Flitz is good stuff. I'm suprised a solvent didn't take it right off but apparently it was a stain. Flitz and a polishing wheel, you could use for a signal mirror when lost in the forest.
