View Full Version : P9 barrel in a CW9 ?

Hi,

I ordered a Kahr CW9 (its value series). I think its a really good gun. However, the pricier P9 (the premium series) is obviously much better. The main difference apart from prettier markings (rolled vs stamped) and better finish, is the barrel. The CW9 has a conventional rifling barrel vs the P9 has a polygonal rifling barrel. I think the different barrels is the only non-aesthetic difference between the two guns. That being said, the specs for both guns are similar (3.6 inch barrels). So my question is, can I buy a Polygonal rifling barrel of the P9 and use it with my CW9?

Here are the parts in the Kahr store:

Thanks.

You will most likely not be able to tell the difference, performance wise. May get a slightly higher muzzle velocity as measured with a chronograph, due to the slightly better seal of the projectile. IMHO, I'd spend the money on ammo!

What Bill said. The barrel would fit, I believe. I bought the ported barrel and it's supposed to fit the P9 and the CW9. It will fit in a K9, but there are differences and I wouldn't advise that. The feed ramp is thicker and different for the K series.

To the excellent advise above, I'd like to add that somewhere along the timeline, Kahr made a change to the barrel lug on P and PM series guns. That said, I imagine that a current production "P" barrel would work in a CW.
CW9 compared to older PM9:

IMO, Bills1873 is spot on with "I'd spend the money on ammo!"

Needa compare PM to CM and P to CW, GB6

That would be better, but ya gotta work with the photos you have or can find...still I believe the barrel lug (and frame cut) changes are the same for either the P or PM series.

Here is my post with pictures of the P9, ported P9/CW9 barrel, PM9, and K9 barrels at some point compared.

One of the many images with P9/CW9 ported barrel at top, K9, P9, and PM9 barrels in order downward.

Excellent photos Wynn :)
This one seems to be of the older style (more narrow) lug.

Does your P9 have a narrow cut in the frame like the PM9 I posted above?

In my old post, I have pictures of the frames side-by-side I believe. P9 in the center, vintage 2004... fired cartridge from June 2004. The lower PM9 is vintage 2006, I believe... a blunt-nosed model. :)

Yep, I didn't scroll down far enough:o
Both (P9 & PM9) look to have the older cut, thanks!
