Hi everyone, I have a new PM45 on the way to me after two weeks of reading this forum to get myself acquainted with Kahr. This forum has been a great asset in making my decision to buy the PM45. I have been a long time shooter and member of various other forums but this is my first Kahr. I think I have all of the basics down for the proper prep work and break-in, thanks for those stickies!, but what ammo do you guys suggest for the initial break-in period? Thanks

You will love the PM45... very accurate and great trigger. I would advise considering something for the grips... I put a bike tire tube cover over the grip, being careful not to interfere with the magazine well or the mag release on either side. I used a 1.75" bike tube and was careful to not dump the talcum powder inside the tube on my pistol!

Check the stickites posted in the newcomer section for prepping your Kahr and there are great posts for taking care of problems before they arise or after finding them.

Any reputable factory FMJ with brass or aluminum cases. i use nothing but 230-grain bullets for the range and defensive carry. I like the Speer 230-gr Gold Dots Short Barrel for defense and the BONDED Remington 230-gr Golden Sabers, distinguished with the Golden scroll with Bonded in it. Normal Golden Sabers are BJHP= Brass Jacketed Hollow points, not Bonded Jacked HP, as some people and dealers think.

I use what ever's cheapest for range fodder and a favorite is the Blazer Aluminum-cased 230-gr FMJ, since I don't reload.

In the photo below the GDSB is to the left, normal Gold Dot in the middle, and Bonded Golden Saber to the right, for cavity comparison. I like bonded bullet.

I also used the Blazer aluminum cased FMJ to break in my PM45. 350 of them first range trip.
I do reload but I use factory for break in. Once I tried my reloads I found they were just a tad bit long. Set em a tad bit shorter and all is well.

Wynn nailed it. Use reputable and full power stuff for break in. They thrive on the good stuff and oft time balk at the girlyman loads especially during break in.

So glad you found us, lots of smart folks to help around here and I'm so glad they let me hang out with them even if I'm not smart as them.

I buy ammo in bulk and surf the 'net for the best deals. Target Sports generally has some good prices and free shipping for case lots. I'm looking for less than $14-$15 a box, shipped to my house, no tax, either.

I sign up for email alerts from my favorite sites.

The Blazer Brass is great, too. By the case with free shipping at $14.99 a box!

I've shot Blazer Brass more than any other manufacturer. Have never had an issue with it. Mostly .40 and 9mm. I look for the 250 and 200 packs.

Good deal! When you use quality ammo to break in your pistol, you can eliminate the ammo as a problem, IF you have any issues. CCI/Speer has great ammo. :)

Welcome. Blazer Brass is good choice. That's what broke in my CM45.

I don't think that was in stock, but it's a good deal... few bucks cheaper per case with shipping.

Thanks for the link Kenemoore I will bookmark that site. Having ordered the PM45, a case of Blazer Brass from Target Sports, and a High Noon Slideguard holster I will need to wait two weeks before ordering anything else anyways.

+1 on Target Sports www.targetsportsusa.com

Have ordered many many thousands of rounds from them. They provide great updates via email, and usually, ship rapidly. Sometimes, they do get behind. I can understand it when there's a run on ammo. You gotta search far and wide (usually) to get better pricing, and even then, you're talking like... oh $15 to $20 difference on 1000 rounds - between them and the lowest of the low. Occasionally, I'll order from Palmetto State Armory, as they will really low-ball some items (including Kahr pistols!) at times.

Both have been 100 percent great vendors for me, with oh... five or six years of dealing with em. I ordered 1000 rounds of 45acp from TS-USA on Wednesday nite, it shipped Friday AM, and is due in on Tuesday (weekends being what they are). No complaints.

Thanks for the input CJB. I ordered 1000 rounds of 45acp Blazer Brass Tuesday night and received it Friday morning. My PM45 came in Friday morning also and I learned two things immediately, 1. The PM45 is smaller than I expected 2. The slide is very difficult to rack when new. Of course I knew the dimensions and had read about the stiff slide but experiencing it is a very different thing.

It'll grow on you, it really will. Get to know it, spend some quality time with it, like all the time and it'll become a favorite.

Everything good about it gets better the more you shoot it. Nothing but good things ahead.

Congrats! If the grip's nibs seem a bit sharp, you can add a bik tube grip for next to nothing. I like the feel of mine. I put one on all of my polymers... 1.75" size... and at least one of my Glocks, the G30S.

PM45 with 6-rd extended grip inserted. To left 5-rd, 7-rd extended grip, and 7-round. Lower is 7-rd extended grip. I carry with the flushest inserted and the largest in a Kydex holder on the opposite side... 5+1+7 rounds.

I was at the range a few days ago to try out LL followers and couldn't believe how nice the PM45 is to shoot. When I moved out to 10 yards i had to reel back my target after 3 rounds to record that before things went to hell. Then things opened up as I began firing for effect... yanking and jerking!

Wynn :)
