Damascus - whatcha think?

I've mentioned that I've been itching for a fixed blade knife. Well here's the story: LGS tells me he used to invest in a knife making company on the east coast. Their relationship fell apart for some reason or another years ago. But he's still got a whole display case of these things and he's motivated to clear them out. Well none of this is verified nor did I even read about it on the net. But the knives look purdy to me and I've busted my fixed blade cherry. Whatcha think?

You went from none to top of the heap. I can't even make up my head which one I love best. I kind of lean towards the bottom one for some reason.

No makers marks or anything on those, I don't see anything.

Damascus just hits me in all the right places. I have to go lie down for a bit, those are swell.

I had eight of 'em layed out on the counter and I'm still looking in the case for ones I mighta missed. Wish I could get them all. Every darn one of 'em was singing at the top of his lungs. I told LGS he needs to bring them out just a couple at a time. Because that darn case was gonna give me a heart attack.

None ever the same, Damascus is metal artwork. I could never bring myself to even use such beautiful knives. Good luck with that venture!

Damascus makes great knife blades, but were not so hot as gun barrels. There is a video on Youtube about making Damascus knives that is real interesting to watch.

LGS doesn't even have a website anymore. Not that he ever shipped stuff. All sales are local and discounts for paying cash. But come on out and I'll take you there. :D Really neat shop full of antiques and stuff. Specialty is older rifles. This is where I got my 1958 Marlin 336 35rem. That gun is nearly perfect.

I'm a fan of Damascus. I've made 4 so far--actually just put handles on existing blades. Those two are really nice.

I intend to use my Damascus blades. Just like guns, none are too pretty to be used. Just need to take extra care and maintenance with Damascus. Clean them real good and oil them. If you store them in the sheath, take them out on a regular basis and wipe them down and re-oil them. Carbon steel rusts. In this current age of stainless, a lot of folks forget about that.

I build some knives for myself. I have a Damascus blade from Alabama Damascus currently in the works. I have to heat treat it, which should be interesting. If you are looking to build your own I highly recommend Alabama D. 416 layers.

Watched every show so far, forging knives and such seems like such guesswork. A surprising number of those fellas produce some bad-assed tools!

Its some pills Muggsy sent me, I didn't realize I was suppose to only take one. I took 6 thinking more is better.

Definitely more but I'm not sure any better.
