View Full Version : Guess my PM9 wants another trip to Wooster, MA

When Kahr got my PM9 for repair last time, one of the front steel rails split in half. They replaced the whole lower. Worked great again.

Well, today at the range, all was going well until I pulled the trigger (after around 40 rounds) and no click....I thought perhaps it was out of battery, but no......the trigger doesn't seem to be connected to anything. After unloading it, I looked in the breech, and when pulling the trigger, the trigger bar doesn't move at all. I'll call Kahr Monday, but how can I remove the slide, as I can't "pull the trigger" to release the slide.

If I knew which part was shot (assuming the trigger bar) I'd just order one and have my local GS fix it.

Here is my best effort to get a picture of it. Where the arrow is pointing is where the trigger bar ENDS now. Seems it broke next to the feed ramp.

Charlie,
Space will be a little tight, but I'd lock the slide back, then take the end plate off and remove all the striker components (probably best to pull the extractor parts as well). At that point, the slide can be removed from the frame per the usual drill (minus pulling the trigger).

Thanks, Greg......I'll try it. I've never heard of a trigger bar just breaking in half, but there is a first for everything. Hope it isn't gone too long in Mass.

I just wasn't sure that removing the striker would release the slide without the trigger pull.

Since you can confirm that you successfully unloaded it, why not just send the whole gun back to Kahr and let them take it apart for repairs?

That's a sound plan too. Never seen a trigger bar broke there before. Hope we don't see anymore either truth be told.

^^^^^^
My thought too. I wouldn't mess around with it. Request rma here:

Something like this I bet you'll get a response with a FedEx ship label right away.

I decided not to take it apart. I found a loose piece of black plastic on the table where I inspected it.....might be from inside of the frame. I will call Kahr in the morning (Monday). I certainly hope they send a ship label.....this is a "new" frame from them...maybe 6 months or so ago. CORRECTION:I found the paperwork.....they replaced the frame in September of 2014.....my bad

I'd for sure send that picture to them as well either before with a followup phone call or after so they know what's what.
I'm sure they'll send a label.

Thanks, Bawanna. I sent them an email with the picture attached, and will call them in the morning.
I also put the black plastic piece in some clear tape with a note for them when they get it. I'd bet something failed in the frame when it broke.
(Which will probably mean another FFL fee if the frame needs to be replaced again). At least I'll have my favorite pistol back eventually.

Good luck Charlie! Hope you have a backup. Be interesting to see what comes about with this unusual failure.

Well, I have my P380 and a Solo DC that should do it for now......but the PM9 is my favorite.:)

Best ccw Kahr has made, IMHO. Include the CM9 also.

Well, it looks like the flight back to Worchester will be on MY dime.

Wow. Seems to me if they recently replaced your frame, they should stand behind it and pay for the shipping. You might have already done this but I would politely insist that they pay for it. BTW having spent a large portion of my life in the area, it's Worcester, pronounced Worse-ter Haha.i once had a flight attendant ask me how to pronounce it before she went on the intercom to announce prep for landing. Good luck...they really should cover the cost.

Yea, I'm NOT happy about it. Kimber sent me a shipping label even though the gun was out of warranty, and was purchased used.
A warranty isn't worth much if the consumer has to eat $65 just to ship back. I'd just have my gunsmith fix it, except that with the piece of plastic that fell out, I'm worried that it might need a new frame anyway. NOT good testimony to quality if one pistol has needed the frame replaced twice.

Did they give you an explanation as to why they would not pay for the shipping?

The warranty apparently covers the repair, but not the shipping.

Horse Hocky! They should cover shipping.

Who paid the shipping the last time you sent it back? If they did, you should ask them why YOU are now responsible. I've sent a P380 back 4 times for strikers and they've paid every time.

They did pay for shipping last time. At least my FFL says he can send it to them more affordably than I can. Fedex was going to be around $65. I don't plan to contact them again just to argue about the shipping.....just want the thing repaired.

PM-40 is currently back at Kahr for the 4th time. Three of those for the same problem. On the first of it's two frame replacements, one of their communications said that they use the parts from your old frame in the new one. I took them to task over this on the second frame replacement as there were several peripheral problems stemming from things like reset tab on the trigger bar whose top surface looked like something that came off of a can opener. Make your frustration clear to them and ask them to look at the whole gun. Also let them know you're not happy about paying the shipping. You don't have to contact them again. Add it to your note that you send with the gun. That puts it under the nose of the person doing the work. It worked for me. They listened. Unfortunately, it did not get the original problem fixed.

Well, the gun is already at Kahr......I hope it comes back as good as it was before the trigger bar broke. It was a great pistol.

Still shocked they didn't pick up shipping. I have an old P380, so I paid for shipping 1st time, but when it had to go back again they picked it up without my asking.

Well, it's been a month....no word from Kahr...only that it's "in queue for repair"......I'm starting to get used to the Kimber Solo.

I can't guarantee that this will fix all of your problems but send them an email and say something like "Please give me a status update on my pistol (insert RMA #) as I need this for my concealed carry pistol. Please don't make me regret my purchase!!!" I don't know what it is but that last line really seemed to get their attention when I was trying to get a status update from them on the pistol I sent in. Both times I wrote "Please don't make me regret my purchase!!" they called my cell phone number, which I included at bottom of email under my name, on the very same day.

Best of luck!

Well over a month now, and the response was it still hasn't been inspected yet. I was told now to expect 6 weeks.

Happy boy today......PM9 is back in service, and just as good as before it broke. Nothin' but bullseye at the range today. :-)http://www.kahrtalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13785&stc=1

No, those are at 7 yds. Those kind of targets are normal with my PM9.....I practice quite a bit. :)
