I have a brand new thompson that dates back to the 80's I cant pinpoint a exact date but a time frame. The gun was made in the west hurley plant, and I was wandering if anyone could tell me what it was worth? I have the box, papers, 2 stick mags, and 1 50 round drum for it and it has never been fired.

The origianl owner never fired it and when I got it I just couldn't make myself shoot it so far. I've only had it a few months.

Well I picked it up on a trade and I've been toying with the idea of trading it for something more usefull but cant get a solid idea of value

I'd keep it just for the cool factor. Need something more practical? Scrape up some cash and get it, but that thing is cool, IMO.

I love my Tommy gun. They are sweet shooters, the weight makes em feel like 22. I've got a Broomhandle Mauser I would swap you!

The gun is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Probably a little more in an unfired condition with the box and paperwork. You need to go to a firearms appraiser for an accurate value or at least to the Blue Book of Gun Values. You might find a copy at your local library.

^^^ That's good advice. There's not a lot of info online. Normally I just go online and look to see what other's are asking. Keep it unfired if you are indeed looking to sell or trade it. Unfired will add to the value. But if it were mine... it would have been shot the first day! :o

I'm curious whether that pre-Kahr vintage is considered a value add or a value minus. I have an older Thompson 1911 and that one has a rather dubious reputation and, unfortunately, isn't worth much. But a Tommy-gun is altogether different. Good luck!

I would estimate the value $1200-$1500. I was at the West Hurley plant back in the day when they were blowing these out for $400. I didn't have it then.

Thank you that is close to what i had it figured at. Im just trying to dertermine now if its worth it to keep it or just trade it for something I can use.

It's an heirloom whether you fire it or not. Personally, I would shoot it. I feel sad in an air museum seeing great planes that will never do what they are made for again. Let that bird fly!

Bet those things are fairly accurate. Always wanted one with a drum. One day, on my bucket list.
