Curious, I have a 16 year old P9 with app. 2000 to 2500 rounds threw it. Mostly full ball ammo. While cleaning it today I noticed that there is an area inside the chamber of the barrel directly in front of and above the ramp that is worn/pitted. It looks like the nickel plating has been worn away. I am fairly sure it is not a deposit of metal from the projectile but metal actually worn from the chamber by the nose of the bullet hitting the roof of the chamber. How big a deal is this and can it be polished out with a dremel tool ? Thanks

I've learned if the chamber is too loose you can get light strikes. I wouldn't do anything or worry about it till that starts happening. When it does, new barrel.

I don't think it can be polished out, but if you haven't had any problems I wouldn't worry about it if its not visible from the outside.

I suspect it's the nickel plating peeling off. Usually not a concern in most cases.
Usually it's described as cosmetic and won't effect reliability.
When they plate the barrels, they're plated inside and out. The plating from the bore itself will gall, peel, smooth and flatten.... eventually. When I got my first PM45, I didn't know about the nickel plating and swore that the deposit in the barrel (galled plating) was really lead from the test firing at the factory. It was not lead, but the nickel.
The chamber of the pm9 that got stolen from me had almost all its plating wore off, and most of it up the middle of the ramp too. Never gave a lick of problem.
You "could" polish it out but... it just aint worth the trouble really. Its giving the beauty treatment to something that nobody sees, and all you'll be able to do is smooth over the edges of the flaked area a bit.
Don't sweat it.
