I picked up a Ruger MKII Government Target Model a couple of months ago and I've been meaning to change out the grips that came on it (rubber Hogue wraparound with finger grooves) for something...let's say.. less bulky. So there I was, surfing the web for something nice, when it dawned on me that there might be something in the "grip drawer". Eureka boys, there was...I actually found three sets of grips before I quit looking. One set is for an early Standard or MKI, but they could be modified. Another set is plastic (I actually like the plastic Ruger panels) from Clark Custom Guns. If I remember correctly, they are supposed to change the grip angle to something more like a 1911. Here's a photo of the Hogue grips, the custom MKI grips, and the Clark set.

I decided to go with the third set I found. These are by Herrett's and have a slight palm swell on either side.

I'm partial to the MK1 grips myself. Nice wood.
Good looking gun, I think they'd all work just fine.

http://www.kahrtalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=13815&stc=1I like those thinner stock grips, same shape as on my MKII. Those wood grips would look good on the stainless model also. Great guns, they are!

They are nice grips, but would take a bit of work.

I bought them for my 1953 Standard, but it turned out they fit the post 1971/pre MKII frame...oh well maybe I'll stumble across a MKI with a Ruger muzzle brake one of these days.
Guess I'll throw in a shot of my Standard

Nice pistol boss :)
As much a I like the bull barrel Rugers, I've come to appreciate the tapered barrel models...especially the heavy taper ones.

Those are to die for! All the wood grips are beautiful on those MKs. i may have to start shopping. Bet those long barreled ones are as accurate as a rifle.

Those are my bowling pin guns, or I should say "were". With the .22 shortage they don't get to much use anymore. To share the wealth I've been opening the few bricks that I get and selling the individual boxes with a limit of two per member.
The 10 incher was a rare find. A friend of mine who was a WWII B17 bomber pilot won it at the gun club and sold it to me for a price I couldn't refuse. The stories George told would curl your hair!
MkI and MkII's, without all that government "safety" crap were, IMHO, the premier .22 guns made by Ruger.
