Not the movie...First the ugly, I ordered a front night sight from Kahr for my PM9 and took it to a local gunsmith I have used before to install sights on other pistols and who did good work....We'll I have heard Kahr sights are on tight and they must be because it looks like he put the pistol up against a guard rail and pressed in the sight with a F350 trailer hitch or something.....Buggered up the sight and scratched up the DLC finish....Not a happy camper!!!....The Bad, I had also taken my M&P 40 to him to install an Apex RAM kit which Apex said would fit my pistol, it didn't so I left with parts in my hand and a PM9 with a messed up snout....So now for the good, on the way home I stopped by another gun shop and ended up trading in the M&P 40 for a beautiful blued Colt Commander .45 so now I'm happy to be out of the.40 business altogether and from now on I'm a member of the 1911 club....:D

Welcome to the 1911 club. No better place to be.
Of course we need pictures or it didn't happen. You know Rules and stuff.

And a Colt too.

I love the commander size. It's amazing how much difference that little half to 3/4" in length reduction helps to wear comfy.
I love my full sizes but the commander just totes easier.

1911s are OK I guess. But I love my .40s! Sorry about the heartburn. Most of us have been there too.

My 40 is a Sig 229 Miami PD, it is one of my best shooters, right next to my Kimber 1911. 2 tack drivers!
now sell the scarred Kahr and go find a clean one. Does your gunsmith bear and responsibility in this injury? I know mine would....

You do realize that you could've send the slide back to Kahr's shop & they'll install the front sight for you? (for a fee)

When I saw the title of this thread I was sure it be about current event politics...

Trump, Hillary and Obama, you arrange them how you like and I wont argue one bit.

I love the 1911, have several, but don't currently have a colt. Not sure which of us is "one up" on the other. Pics please

Love my 1911's. The 40S&W IMHO is a fading cartridge.

It is not a bad thing to be out of the .40 business altogether, and it is a very good thing to have a blued Colt Commander .45

I have not experienced the supposed Kahr sight tenacity as is sometimes reported herein at this forum, or elsewhere for that matter. I am sorry your DLC finish was marred. I have always found that one cannot have too much vice when installing sights. That is to say, not only for the purpose of holding the slide, or barrel, or what have you, but also to be dead weight, which will absorb the blow from the small hammer and punch. To wit, I have reworked a 10 inch iron and steel "Harbor Freight", aka King Keng Fu, vice just for this sort of task. It is mounted on a steel plate, and that plate is mounted onto the top of my 2x6 topped and framed work bench. When the slide is essentially immovable, one will find that the front or rear sight of almost any small arm is easily moved with only a small tappity-tap hammer and a steel punch with brass tip, such as is sold my Brownells. I have leather, aluminum, and 3/8 inch walnut strips to use as suitable protectors for whatever is in the vice... with the walnut strips being my favorite to employ on slab sided specimens, as is the case with pistol slides.

Thanks guys, This is a good lesson for someone needing sights installed, Spend the money and send it back to the factory to get the work done correctly....I'm really loving on the new Colt and she is such a beautiful gun, can't beat blue steel and pretty wood and what a joy to shoot so maybe it was meant to be, besides I have always wanted a PM45 so it's all good...Oh about pictures, I could no more up load pictures than I could flap my arms and fly down stairs and get a beer so sorry but use your imagination....Trust me , she's sweet.....And I said no more new guns this year, oh we'll, so it goes....

No trick to flapping your arms and flying down stairs, gravity is your friend. I avoid the top of stairs when the wife is in THE mood.
Probably less painful with no wheels and a steel frame following your semi controlled crash landing.

Hi LZ
When I pick up spent brass after a USPSA match, the caliber is usually about 50% 40's and 30% 9's a few 45's and the rest 38 Super and 38Supercomp. At least in this kind of competition, the 40 is dominant.

Love my 1911's. The 40S&W IMHO is a fading cartridge.

Congrats on acquiring a Colt Commander. I've always liked the concept of a reduced size 1911. My 1911s are both standard sized and always transported in my shooting bag.

With reference to the above ". . . I pick up spent brass . . .", another rich source for spent brass is the local range. My local range has a few positions set up for five yards. Most who shoot this distance are newbies who are trying out their first handgun and don't reload. You wouldn't believe the amount of once-fired factory loaded cases I've salvaged from this location, especially after a weekend.

Those who believe that the .40 cartridge is fading, are usually the same people who either don't like the caliber, or believe in global warming. Besides the .357, it's the best man stopper out there. I, for one, am glad a lot of people don't like the caliber...................leaves more ammo for me. Personally, .357, .40, 44 mag and .45 are the only calibers. The only reason I carry 9mm is because it fits in my pocket........that's the ONLY reason:):)

I don't know man. My K40 is magnported and it's still a fire breathing dragon. I like the 40 is a full size gun, got no issue with 40, it's a real caliber but I still prefer my 45. My PM45 isn't near the dragon that K40 is.

Isn't that odd. I find my K40 easier to shoot vs. My CM45. We's all different I guess.

I'd venture to say the majority that do, don't get to chose what they carry.
I've got one pistol chambered for the short & weak, a G27. I've also got no complaints with it.
If I had to do it over again I'd still take the .40 G27 over the 9mm G26.:hippie:

getsome, congrats on the Commander! If you'd like, PM me some photos and I'll post them for ya:)
In the meantime and as we've not had any photos, I've got a Commander slide:D

I got to fondle a CZ 1911 the other day. It really got me thinking. Although I need another 1911 like a hole in my head. They are hard to pass up aren't they?

True on the global warming, as the USGovy is gettin out of the 40 it seems.
I wonder whats gonna happen to those gerjillion rounds they purchased?

As for the "don't like the caliber" part, well... its not the caliber, but the cartridge. Having had a 10mm 1911 shooting before Colts Delta Elite came to town, I find the forty rather deballed. I'd take a 10mm, but the 40 just never did much for me.

I'm still stuck on the .45ACP. A believer of the big hole concept.....

When a Colt 1911 is the silver lining to a bad situation?
It sounds like maybe that was the way it was meant to be...

As for 40 S&W?
In the last two ammo shortages, locally .380/9mm/.357 Sig/.45 ACP disappeared.
Where .40 S&W FMJ/JHP could be purchased in a variety of weights/manufacturers.
It's not my favorite caliber.
But I've got several guns chambered for it.
Really like .45 ACP.
And am warming up to 9mm/.380 for BUG and deep cover.
But my favorite carry caliber? 357 Sig.:D

I love shooting 1911 guns (Particularly Wilson Combat).
But so far, spending ~$3K for a single gun just isn't in the cards.
Plus although I've carried cocked and locked it's not my favorite option.
I'm still thinking I've got to own at least one 1911 at some point.
Maybe I need to think about a Springfield TRP or Range Officer Operator?
Time will tell...

Aw hell, when you got a 45 Auto Colt Govt Model as a silver lining.... ya just go around looking for black clouds!
