I recently acquired a early production SS K40. The frame appears to be slightly misaligned with the slide as when the pistol cycles the left side of the frame rubs the left outside of the slide recoil spring tunnel.....nt bad but noticeable. Frame to slide fit is tight and there are no burs etc. inside frame but when in battery you can see there is less clearance on the left side than on the right. Someone told me this was an occurrence with very early frames and slides. Pistol functions and shoots fine, but I would like to have it Ceracoated and don't want the rubbing wear on the Ceracoat. I can attempt to clearance it with a little judicial filing but would like to know if this really was an issue with the early frames and slides before I proceed as it really appears to be a mfg. issue. Does anyone here recall this happening in the early years(late 90's) Thanks for any info. you folks can provide.....Jim

I've seen older steel frame Kahrs (not only K40s) with that type wear on the slide and others without. I certainly couldn't say with any authority if it was a common occurrence or not.
If it bothers you, I'd say go ahead with the attempt to make clearance. I've done so on other semi-automatic pistols with good results.

Thanks Greg.....It was long ago but I seem to recall the same thing on all early SS and iron frames....If I recall they also made slight changes to the frames and slides years ago....probably due to this issue. If I look at the right out side of the spring tunnel it sort of has a flat milled in it whereas the left outside of the tunnel is rounded. Yep I will clearance it...I have no problem with that but just testing my memory(and everyone else's)I'm a very curious person and need to know everything...something like OCD. Thanks agajn....Jim
