You know there is a shopping mall named after him (Ali Mall) in Quezon City Philippines. It was built and named after him after he beat Joe Frazier in his Manila fight. It had the best pancake restaurant in Manila. I ate there every week (2 orders at a sitting) for 6 months in 1987. They had awesome chocolate chip pancakes with peanut butter syrup. Like a Reeses peanut butter cup big as a plate.

I don't know if he got any money out of the deal or not.

I was never a fan of Ali and I'm still not. I will say he was a great boxer, though.

I used to be a big boxing fan. When Ali came along and turned it into a circus side show like professional wrestling I lost interest as did many others. Boxing slowly faded afterwards. It is too bad as he was prpbably the best heavyweight in history. Shame.

My thoughts exactly, he was "the greatest fighter".

I'm gonna apologize for my flippant post up there someplace..... but.....

All f'n day long, even the night before, it was 24 hour coverage.

The crowd is gathering
There are campers
Campers are eating
The campers are sending out for coffee
etc etc

The hearse can be seen
The casket is being loaded
The hearse is being started
etc etc

They're making a left
Now they're preparing to stop... yes brake lights... they may be stopping
No, they're making a right
etc etc

A man is on the sidewalk
A police officer is looking on
A woman is walking twins in a stroller
etc etc

There was literally no end to his end.

Great boxer, great showman, a great philanthropist at times.

To his credit, he renounced Islamic terror, and rebuked Mohammedans that did not also renounce terror.

To his detriment he once won on a technicality, by decision, and that was the Clay vs United States, where he was "let off" for not being properly served by the draft board, when his notice arrived late.

Oh I understand, the libs love him because he was a draft dodger and other things. I liked him because of his fighting skills, he was fun to watch.

Yep, you would have thought that he was the queen or something. Good fighter and a showman. Thats about it. I still feel bad for anyone suffering from Parkinson disease though. My previous next door neighbor had it.

Fast forward to the 20 minute mark, if you don't want to watch the whole episode.... After the politicians got involved, just like Iraq and Afghanistan, 55000 names on a wall for a war we never intended to win. I lost respect for him, though I'm not sure Ali was so wrong in hindsight, to dodge the draft by switching religions. That said he was a great boxer, but no hero to me. 1/9th air Cav 1970-1972 (drafted)
