I go to an indoor range at least three times a month, sometimes more. I shoot pretty good. It's rare I see someone at the range close to my skill level, lots of folks practicing to get there carry permits. There is one guy who is way better, I wish I could shoot like he does . I take at least one training courses per year, and try to get better, not just burn ammo.
A guy I really respect and trust teaches many self defense courses and he says indoor ranges are okay, but you pick up a lot of bad habits, taking your sweet ass time and always going for the x ring.
For defensive purposes, we should be shooting close enough as fast as is reasonable. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. So.... for the last few months I have been practicing fast pretty good shooting. I took my recently acquired K9 to the range today, and I can shoot a 3" group at 10 yards, almost as fast as I can pull the trigger. I can shoot a 5" group one handed, either hand almost as fast.
But.. when I slowed down and tried shooting at some 1" dia. targets at 7 yards, I can shoot a 1" group, but it's not on the target, it's about 1/2" right and 1/2" high. I thought the K9 sights were off, but I got the same results with my PM9 and Dan Wesson CCO. I've done something to my "bullseye" radar. Any thoughts?
With the Dan Wesson I used to could shoot out the 1" targets at 7 yards and just leave a trace of orange.
BTW, I am right handed left eye dominate, pretty sure that's were my problem is, I used to shoot a lot better when I was younger, but my eyes are slowly letting me down.
