Heading into law this Friday is Tennessee’s Senate Bill 1736, which will put into action something gun owners have been encouraging for years.

As of July 1, if a handgun carry permit holder in Tennessee is injured, suffers bodily injury or death, incurs economic loss or expense, property damage or any other compensable loss on a property posted as a gun-free zone, they can sue the person or entity who stripped them of their right to self defense.

SWEET!

In layman’s terms, any permit holder injured as a result of being stripped of their right to self defense, and their handgun, in a posted gun-free zone can file a lawsuit within two years of the event as long as they meet the following requirements:
•were authorized to carry a gun at the time of the incident
•prohibited from carrying a firearm due to the posting of a gun-free sign
•the property owner was not required to be posted by state or federal law and posted by choice

Can you imagine? Holding gun-free zone property accountable for injuries people sustained by being disarmed and left defenseless? Groundbreaking.

Very good news for gun rights. But I hope nobody has to use it.

This is FANTASTIC!

And as a reciprocating GA carry holder myself it is particularly comforting.

sorry guys. Don't like more laws......there shouldn't be gun free zones period. This law doesn't apply to most of us since we tend not to go into GFZs in the first place or carry deeper when we do. This is a nice distractor as our gun rights are constantly being attacked on a much larger scale. This kind of law is exactly what we don't like. Lawyers passing laws to make a buck and making someone else to blame for your bad fortune. Simple really...if someone posts GFZ YOU take the responsibility of going there or not. Stop looking for others to be responsible for you. Isnt that what we always preach here on this forum. Personal responsibility and freedom. If someone post GFZ you have a choice. The freedom to give up your 2A right or not. Lets face it, if you are damaged in a GFZ or not, the lawyers are gonna go after the property owner anyways--right? Wherever the umbrella insurance policy leads them. Business owners have rights to...no shirt no shoes no service....... I want freedom, not more laws.

I think I love you knkali.................perhaps not in any mano mano way ya know?

The lawyers making big bucks because your dead in a GFZ turns my stomach. Actually lawyers turn my stomach anyhow so guess it don't matter much.
