View Full Version : Local LEO's on high alert
As fate would have it....
I got done with my yardwork, got the early monthly bills paid, and decided to go to the ATM to deposit some checks. Drive thru ATM's down. @#$@#$!
Ok, there is an inside ATM a the bank, just gotta park and use that. Parked next to a local LEO, who IMMEDIATELY tore out of the parking space, and went into a space in front of the Crown Liquor store... about 150 feet away. Odd.
Did my stuff at the bank, decided to go buy some Wild Turkey 101.... yup, parked next to the same LEO. He was not pleased. Wanted to know if I had a problem. No... no problem, just doing my thing. He was not amused. Demanded my license, registration and insurance proof.
I jokingly lost it, told him it was the first time I'd ever pulled up next to a officer for such a check, and then told that he could at least have the god damned common courtesy to pull ME over before asking for all that. He laughed. He apologized. I thanked him for his service. He said they're all on high alert, expecting trouble tonight and he was working double shifts on account of it and tying to get 20 winks on his break.
Well, hell.... THAT I can understand!
Anyway, info passed on for the sake of passin it on. He never did get to see my papers. Heheheh.
That's what happens when I venture from the compound, embedded in the swampland... always some sort of trouble!

Now is NOT the time to be on the sending end of an attitude. Sadly this situation nationwide is going to get worse before it gets better. Everybody wants rights w/o consequences but most discard the responsibilities that those rights require. You CANNOT have rights WITHOUT parallel responsibilities. I fear that if the violence and indifference continues you could see Martial Law enforced in areas where the violence is out of control. I hope and pray that these anomalous events are just that, rare anomalies and not the new normal.
Officers have only two alternatives:
1. Pull back and allow anarchy to reign
2. Become hyper sensitive and even more pro active than before in self preservation.

#1 is really working out well for the citizens of Baltimore, ain't it? I don't blame the BPD rank & file one bit - their city government bosses don't have their six.

If I was a LEO I would be jumpy too! I feel it will get worse before it gets better. Just wish the problems would behave themselves.

I just don't see CJB fitting the profile of someone that the LEO should have to worry about, just sayin. I guess they really are jumpy.

That's because you don't see CJB. Ordinarlily, I am an ugly mo'fo. And I stand 6'2"+ inches in bare feet and tip the scale in the mid 200's. My hair is long, unruly, beyond hippy-ish, and my beard scraggly. My usual attire is a sweat soaked, salt ring streaked, black t-shirt, filthy jeans the bikers call originals (aka never washed), and Red Wing boots, which lift my elevation another two inches. I drive a 1999 Ford Ranger with remnants of an exhaust system and a manual transmission. When I ride a Harley Sportster, I look like the clown at the circus on a mini bicycle. I have been known to carry a Kahr PM-45, a Charter Pitbull .45, a Gerber Guardian switchblade and a Benchmade Infidel switchblade.... all at the same time.
On the occasion described above, I was beyond my ususal ugly mo'fo persona, and covered with grass clippings, sand, insects, and had a real good case of ball sweat drippin' down my jeans. The latter, in and of itself, should have caused concern from the LEO.
However, all things considered, the event went remarkably well, especially with a chuckle, exchange of pleasantries and no mention of the ball sweat.
There was a small "protest march" of about 15 individuals, some with their white girlfriends, carrying a few signs, who marched down a certain (un-named) street, from the main street of town, to a street called Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. I was told that several of the towns finest kept the right lane of traffic tied up for over an hour, as the marchers walked down the sidewalk, which is removed from the street proper by a 15 foot grass swale.
IOW, nothing to see, move along, move along.... If not for the police escort (which I trust was to keep the marchers safe from local ruffians who disagreed with their position) they could have been a group trick-or-treating for UNICEF.

I was in LA years ago when Martial Law was enforced.
Dusk to dawn curfew with the National Guard patrolling the streets.
Naturally gun/ammo sales were banned as well.
It was surrealistic.
Hope I never have to live through anything like that again.
Good reason to stock up on guns and ammo..... ya never know!

Good reason to stock up on guns and ammo..... ya never know!
Used to think a good handgun and a few boxes of ammo would handle anything.
Sure don't feel like that anymore...
People ask, how many guns do you have CJB? I used to be able to tell 'em. At this point in life, I really don't know anymore, neither do I have even an appoximate count on ammo. But, there's always room for more.
If I could FIND another Pitbull .45, I'd buy it in a second.

I would of recognized the black leather vest anywhere.
Shame having a patch over both eyes though, that has to suck really bad when your riding.
