View Full Version : CW380 - Initial take down for cleaning and lubrication

I recently picked up my new CW380 from my FFL shop. Neat looking little pistol. Yep, the slide requires some strength to lock back, but actually less than I anticipated. My "late 60s" year old wife probably could not operate it, but I'd be surprised if the average, younger woman could not.
I did a quick field strip to clean the handgun and do the typical new pistol lube yesterday. I was really pleased how easy this little bugger was to take down compared to my CM9. Even though I've had the CM9 down about 3 times, I had the CW380 ready to be lubed in about half the time it took me to do the CM9 last time. Maybe it's just my CM9; I was a little worried the CW380 would be more difficult to take down than the CM9. Please to see I worried for nothing.
I do have to mention an off topic point. I have several other pistols (S&W, Walther, Sig, Glock, H&K, Colt), and none require the fiddling around that I have to do to field strip my two Kahrs. I guess that's the price we have to pay for a good quality pistol for a decent price. And my two Kahrs appear to be excellent guns; I know my CM9 is, now I'm hoping the CW380 will do as well. One issue I had with the CM9; it often had the first rounds "nose dive" when I slapped the magazine into the grip too forcefully. (That was often required with my S&W Shield to get the magazines to seat properly.) I will avoid that "slapping" with the CW380.
Off to the range soon I hope.....got 200 rounds of Federal American Eagle 380 FMJ and a box of Fiocchi XTP and anoither of Federal Hydr-Shok ammo to test...assuming my hand holds out.

Good luck, can't wait to hear how it runs for you! Remember the grip thing.

I love my CW380, but did have to adjust my grip to keep it from rattling around in my hands. Once I did that, it fed 100%.

"..did have to adjust my grip to keep it from rattling around in my hands..."
It is a cute and tiny little bugger, isn't it?;)
Screwy thing is, my first 380 was a Glock 42. I bought it about a year ago to carry on my motorcycle when I travel, as I needed something small and light, but still big enough to get a decent grip. I still have the Glock, and it's a fine pistol. I shoot it well. Then I stumbled upon the Kahr line, and the CM9. Heck, it was about the same size as the Glock, but a 9mm, so I bought one, again destined for mainly motorcycle carry. I have enjoyed shooting the CM9, and developed a liking for much that Kahr offers in their handguns. We had some teething pains with each other, and I still struggle to disassemble it for cleaning, but shooting it has gone really well now I've learned its ways. It is accurate and very concealable. Then.....well, I figured since I liked the CM9 I ought to give either the CW45 or CW380 a try.....finally settled on the little 380 as I had no other (what I consider to be a) "pocket" gun. I decided to skip the larger 45 for now......its weight seemed too low for me for such a large round.
Cheers!

I wanted to give out a shoutout to Talon grips on the CW380. They greatly improve the grip for me, and they are very durable. I don't see any wear on the grip.

I'll have to keep the Talon grips in mind. However, I thought I'd need them with the CM9 but learned I did not with that pistol. We'll see how it goes with the CW380 when I finally get a chance to shoot it.....hopefully next week.

I had Talon's on my HK........................they worked well, but eventually like to curl on the corners after some use. I took them off. I use Pachmayr grip sleeves on my Kahr and M&P, but they will move around a bit at the range.

I didn't need the Talons with the CW380, but it just made it more comfortable for me. Berettabone, sorry you had the corners lift on the Talons. Mine have been in use for over a year and look as good as the day I installed them. I prepped the frame with alcohol and used the hair dyer, and they look almost like they are part of the original pistol. Do you have the sandpaper grips or the rubber ones? I have the rubber ones. I just bought a PPS M2, Papersniper, and the first thing I did was order Talons. :)

How are you liking that PPS? Mine has been my constant carry for the last couple of weeks. Really like that pistol. I am now shopping for a horizontal mag carrier for my spare magazine. Most look to print more than the pistol in an IWB holster, so I'm trying to find one that sticks out the least. I wanted a mag carrier that I could use with multiple magazines (Shield, M&P9c, etc) but I think that's impossible if I want max concealment.
