Found this little "gem" at a local gun store. Very small, all steel 45. I owned one about ten years ago but sold it to fund another purchase. Other then the HEAVY da trigger pull, it was reliable. Havent shot this one yet, but i am hoping the same results as these backups can be hit and miss.
i have seen ones in 380, and 9mm a handful of times in the past few years but never the 45. This one even came with original box and manual!
Good Lord, I sold the hell out of those and they were neither cheap nor too reliable, but you could always get 'em to be reliable with just a little tweak and smoothin' up.
I wanted one... which are no longer made... so I ended up wanting a Sig P250 .45acp SubCompact. It was delayed for a long, long time.
Ended up with Kahr, then two, then three... now four. You get the picture. Never looked back, but....
The little AMT (Irwindale) is a great little gun. Things got better for AMT when they moved from El Monte.
The .380 was striker fired, not similar at all. The 9mm was just a scaled down .45, and they were not bad either.
And you know... you've got a VERY low serial number there, yes?

I've seen one in the used gun case, it looked like a solid but simple gun that might be an interesting substitute for the K45 Kahr will never produce.

Rumor has it that these were some of the earliest Stainless on Stainless slides and frames, and the metal was not quite up to par. I have heard a lot of stories about galling, and having to run them extremely wet. I do not know if these stories are fact or fiction, but might be something to keep and eye on.

Yeah i sure wish kahr would make an MK 45. Never understood why they dont. Im pretty surr the AMT BACKUP is the smallest 45 auto. The Simmerling was smaller but it is a repeat action. Anyway, im going shooting this Friday so i will post my findings after that. Wish me luck!
Only early Hardballer and Skipper 45s had galling issues. Those were El Monte guns. And, it was the barrels that had the issue. Put a good stainless or carbon steel barrel in and you were all set with those.
My first .380 was a then newly introduced AMT Backup. Mid-late '70s. Bought it to supplement/replace the .25 autos I was light clothing toting at the time. Never really took to it, tho, and it was gone in a few years.

Just got back from an odd range session. First 50 rounds ran without a bobble. Second box, the fun started. Once every mag a brass would come strait back at my face. A couple light strikes and the slide got really sticky and ftf a couple times. Not worried because this is not going to be a carry piece, but maybe something i can tinker with...
