CM9 issue and Kahr warranty

A fellow shooter picked up a used Kahr CM9 the other day. He got it from the original purchaser and has the original sales ticket, at this time I do not know the date of purchase.

The gun is supposed to have about 400 round thru it, no way to be sure of this.

The problem with the pistol is the slide is sticking when pulled back, gun empty. Then when an empty mag is inserted the slide slams forward. What I did is install my CM9 barrel it into into the problem pistol works perfectly. I put the problem gun's barrel into my CM9 and the sticking problem duplicated. I tried swapping only the slide stop, no change on the bad gun.

Noticeable deep wear marks are on the barrel, top, and both side of the chamber area.

The barrel is without question the problem, possibly the cam hole is not in spec.

The guy that owns the gun is over 80, not a "forum" guy. Do you think Kahr would apply any warranty to this gun? serial is "IN98xx.

Gun does not appear to have been abused in any manner.

My P380 was bought used. I've had a couple of issues over the years either with the gun or the magazine. Each time the factory rep has provided a return authorization and they've fixed it without charge. I've never claimed that I'm the original owner besides which the gun is obviously way out of warranty. I never asked for free shipping either but only once did I have to pay it.

I think they just want the guns out there with the Kahr name on them to work properly.

Sparx, if this was porn, your bottom photo would be the money shot.

That photo clearly shows a gap in front of the locking lug, when the pistol is in battery. That gap is an issue. When you fire the pistol, the slide will not be fully locked to the barrel. Instead, the force of the brass on the breechface will allow the slide to move in relation to the barrel, slamming the slides corresponding surface into the front of the barrel, normally forming a "peening" issue. Its possible that any peening has been carfully removed, for whatever reason.

Not sure on the warranty position, but.... this is likely something that Kahr will consider, since... it was an original manufacturing defect.

Ok, so the gap is between the front vertical edge of the barrel's chamber area and the front edge of the opening in the slide?

take off the slide, remove the recoil spring assy.

with the barrel in the slide, push down gently on the kidney shape locking area (lower locking part). Just a very gentle press on that spot to hold it in place in the up/down direction. Now move the barrel forward and backward. There should be zero forward and backward play. But... usually there is a very very little. I mean... VERY little. Any noticable movement there is the tell tale.

I see a bright spot in the picture, at that forward chamber area (locking surface). Is that a reflection or is that a place that shows its been worked on?

Yeah there is a bright spot on top of the barrel just behind the high edge, but, just on the right hand side as you hold the pistol. I cannot tell if worked on or not.

Do you mean push the barrel up into the slide from the locking lug? If so, the barrel moves fore and aft maybe.010" or so.

Sparx, you can always swap your barrel in and out and compare the fit and movement between the two. I bought a K9 used and didn't have any problem getting warranty work done. Worse case scenario, if you isolate the problem to a bad barrel, you'd just have to buy a new one.
