For those that carry a PM9 or CM9 in an IWB holster, how many spare mags do you carry and how do you carry them? IWB? Loose in a pocket? (Which pocket?) In a pocket holster?

I live in Phoenix. From Mid June to the end of August 'Normal' is 103. For the last two months, almost every day has been 105 to 110 and quite a few days were 113 to 118. 'Winter' is officially considered to be when the overnight low goes below 60. LOL Looking at all record temperatures, it can be 70 degrees or higher any day of the year.

Ok, so I got on a bit of a rant, sorry. :)

What I am trying to say is the for 3 to 4 months in the Summer, dressing to best carry is a difficult objective. Dressing to endure the heat is a very high priority. That being said, cotton pants (Dockers) and jeans that are heavy and would tend to be better for holding their shape and thus holding magazines in a stable, secure position and being thick enough to avoid printing, are not the best choice for enduring the heat. Lighter fabrics such as linen and silk, especially shorts, are more comfortable but are more flexible and thus would allow a mag loose in a pocket to flop around and to print although I'm not sure that a mag printing is that much of a problem, wear caused by the sharp edges might be.

The upside is that Hawaiian/Camp shirts are great and cover even my 4" 686 without printing, unless I bend over the wrong way.

I'm new to carrying concealed so I would appreciate your experience with carrying mags.

Winter (it is actually only a concept here, never actually happens LOL), from Late September into May, jeans are reasonable so everyday is less of a problem but dress slacks are.

Thanks!

I'm left handed. In my front left pocket goes either my CM9 or P380. (Or every so often the CM9 will ride IWB at about 7:30. Spare mag if only one goes in this great little pocket mag holster from Elite tactical. It's similar to the DeSantis Nemesis or Remora type material. I keep that in my right front pocket along with my super slim wallet and separate money clip (I keep them separate so if mugged I have the option to just give them the money or use it as a distraction to get to my gun.) I also clip my knife to my right weak hand pocket. Don't have huge pockets, but this works well for me. Cell phone goes in back pocket. Small streamlight protac 1L in pouch on belt. This set up leaves only the flashlight on the belt, and I can go about my business in a tucked in shirt with no one the wiser. If I want to carry a second spare mag there's a number of inexpensive own mag holsters on eBay that look like multitool pouches and no one's ever noticed with that when they've seen the pouch. Depending on where I am, sometimes I'll do both pocket and belt spare mags as it gives me more options in a SHTF scenario. Hope this is helpful!

I carry IWB, even when wearing shorts during the Colorado summers. My spare magazine is in my left rear pocket, or my left side cargo pocket. (I'm right handed) It isn't noticeable, and I tend to keep a handkerchief in that pocket with the mag to keep it oriented up and down.

I either carry a pair of 7rounders in a Beardog dual mag pouch (back left pocket) or a single 7 rounder loose (front left pocket). If you carry loose, be sure to test your mag to assure the top round stays put. A LakelineLLC follower is good for that.

I gotta admit I'm digging carrying this PM9 IWB in a Dean dual snap holster. It's very light and comfortable. The temp is record hot here too. IWB makes better sense to me with thin clothing because it takes advantage of your good belt to keep the gun secure and comfortable (vs. pocket carry). JMHO.

Please send me the 4" 686. I'd like to experiment with carry options for that exact model.

I'll of course provide you with semi annual reports until I get it all perfected.

I carry the 686 in a Galco Silhouette, SIL127. It is a high ride and pulls nicely into my kidney area. At 2 lbs 12 oz empty it is bit heavy though. LOL

It has a highly figured Goncalo Alves finger grip handle. I get offers to buy it all the time.

Please send me your address Bawanna and I will get it to you right away. :)

b4uqzme, would you please send me a link to the Beardog dual mag pouch and the Dean dual snap holster. I don't seem to be able to find them. Thanks!

I carry my CM9 in an IWB holster and a spare 6 round mag in my right front pocket (awkward since I carry on the right side as well). I have been carrying this way for a long time but the mag digs in my leg and I thought it would be nice to free up some room in that pocket (wallet only will be nice). BTW I have never had any problems with the rounds coming out of the mag while in my front pocket.

I ordered one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HIIV9IY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .

I am waiting on the brown truck right now. I just hope it is not too bulky. This will most likely be placed horizontal at about the 10 - 10:30 o'clock position on my gun belt. The size 2 should also work for an extra 1911 mag as well when I decide to carry my Colt Wiley Clapp CCO this winter (part-time only because I loveeee my CM9 so much).

For those that carry a PM9 or CM9 in an IWB holster, how many spare mags do you carry and how do you carry them? IWB? Loose in a pocket? (Which pocket?) In a pocket holster?....

I carry my CM9 in an IWB Kydex holster at the 2:30 o'clock position. I carry one spare magazine in a Hollis mag carrier at the 9-10 o'clock position.. I tried carrying a spare mag in a lower pocket in my cargo shorts - at the end of the day there was one loose round in there; no more of that for me! The Hollis works very well although I got it for a single stack Walther PPS 9mm magazine. I do have to adjust the carrier's tension depending on which magazine I am carrying. Easy to do with a Phillips screwdriver.

You can reach Beardog via this forum. But at last report he is no longer making them (unconfirmed). I got mine used right here. So maybe a WTB thread might scare one up.

For pocket carry or IWB: Have a Beardog for CM9 but if he is retired, Pocket Mag for PM 9/40 from M. Bullard Leather Mfg.'s Online Store. Have one for my CM390. He has a pocket and clip models for pocket or IWB. Excellent. Also Remora's mag pouch fits 2 9mm/6 or 380/6-7(magguts) mags quite well and can be carried either way. Often free with a Remora holster purchase.

Elite has a couple variations. Also they have a package that includes a pocket holster for your gun as well as a pocket mag pouch. Check them out at http://www.elitesurvival.com/index.php?p=home

Thanks for the links!

So I was at the LGS today, waiting forever for NICS to do their thing, which by the way they never did. Apparently there is some new system that is completely hosed up.

Anyway, I was perusing the stuff on the wall while I waited and asked the guy if he had any pocket mag pouches/holsters. He said he didn't. I had nothing better to do so I carefully scanned the stuff on the pegs and ran across some stuff with Remora labels, holsters. I kept looking and found some mag holsters, a dual and a package of singles. The dual was too wide to fit in my pocket but the singles looked good so I got them.

I got to look at and handle the PM9 but not take it home yet. Waiting on NICS.

Hello there, SteveOak. Used to live in Ehrenberg, AZ once upon a time. Visited Phoenix occasionally. Two seasons down there- Summer and Air Conditioning. Just kidding- I used to love winter- all three weeks of it.... Actually, I didn't- too many snowbirds! My solution is essentially a camp shirt for the coverage length. Used to to carry two extra 6 rd. mags in De Santis OWB dual mag holderfor total of 19 rounds (one in the pipe, as they say). But recently acquired two extended 7 rd mags for follow-ups, so I can now pack 21 rounds. I gotta hear more about current AZ CWC laws. Thinking of retiring there....

I frankly do not carry a spare mag on my person. I am very happy to carry 7+1 in my PM9 with an extended magazine for any immediate events requiring the delivery of deadly force in fear for my life. This way, I carry nearly all the time, absent of course any restricted buildings or areas*.

I also keep a spare PM9 mag, and a loaded Beretta PX4 Compact 9mm, with an extra mag for it (interchangeable ammo, dig that!) readily available to me in a car safe in the trunk of my car. That's my solution.

* p.s., having the car safe is ideal for those restricted situations.

I carry one spare mag. no matter which gun I'm carrying.
I like the kydex ones I get from a local (SE MI) guy, but he doesn't have them on his web site because he doesn't have forms/models for all gun mags, including Kahrs. When I have him make a mag. holder I give him my mag. and he makes it while I wait.
He's a one man operations and is just getting his business going. He had been a LEO but got out after Ferguson, His whole family was behind that decision. Tough time to be a cop.

Here's my PM9 in a DeSantis Insider. It hides very well and is fairly comfortable but it's very hard to draw from. I only use this holster when carry is discouraged.

The mag carrier was made buy a guy outside of a gun store, I replaced the clip with one from a Comp-Tac holster. It's pretty comfortable also. The mag is a 7 rounder.

I would have a difficult time with that. I like a gun to meet me half way. With duty holsters I'd prefer than when the retention was released there was a spring in the bottom of the holster that launched the gun up into my awaiting hand.

Seriously I like to be able to have a full and ready to shoot grip before it leave the holster.

That being said there are occasions such as you mention where your set up would be the ticket.

If it works for you, mission accomplished.

The fact that your a bit slimmer through the trunk probably gives you an advantage too. Ok, a lot slimmer, there I said it.

The only way I would carry that deep, is if front pocket carry was impossible, which it's not. If you can't get a good draw, what's the point???????????? I don't carry extra mags.....................if you can't get the job done with what you have loaded, you must be over seas.........................

There again, personal preference. I'd tie a string thru the trigger guard and wear the gun around my neck like Tico before I'd carry in my pocket. Just foreign to me plus being a full time sitter, just don't work, although I've never even tried.
Many live for pocket carry but not me.

Spot on OvalNut.

Many guys go around with no belt or don't like wearing belts. I hate going without, always have, not sure why.
I've thought about sewing belt loops on my sweat pants. I'm not much for sweat pants but they are the comfort ticket for a full time sitter. Easy on, easy off and no seams to chaffe one's back side as it were.

But no place to hang important stuff. I never wear them away from home, just around the house and shop. PM45 on the ankle becomes primary. (not good but better than being nekkid.)

I carry my CM9 usually in a PJs IWB between 3-4 oclock,(preferred)(I sometimes will tuck shirt over the grip just enough to conceal) sometimes front pocket carry also; my phone is usually worn on left side belt ahead of a horizontal Leatherman marked pouch. CM has 7+1, w/8 in the pouch; between practice/competition with the CM9, I feel confident w/16 rounds of Critical Defense.
