Had been interested in the Shield .45 but when I go ahold of one I didn't care too much for the feel of it in my hand. Seemed like a really light gun for a .45. I did own an XDS .45 in the past that I wasn't too fond of

Anyways I saw a P220 Compact (used) at a LGS for 625. Held it last night and was pleased at how it pointed and felt in my hand. The extra heft vs the Shield felt better to me as well

Offered 600 and they accepted. Can't wait to get it to the range and put it through its paces. May have found a cooler weather EDC

Never understood the SAS from Sig.

First, I only hear Special Air Service (in my head), and I can't be the only old fart who thinks that way.

Next, with all the little doo-dads on the outer extremities of a Sig how can it be anti-snag? The regular P22x series already was an easy reholster, and Sig hasn't really done much with the "draw" part of no snag.

So maybe they ought to have called it something like a Sig-Melt. On second hand, that sounds like something to eat, and S-Melt sounds fishy to me.

Whatever.

Its a nice pistol. I've had three Sig P220's (on the 3rd one now for decades). I got #1 as a Browning BDA-.45, but it was Sig and Browning marked. When the "American" came out, I traded up. Somehow, I sold it along the way but got another not long after, German three serial number - except - no serial on the barrel. WTF? and it was "as new" when I got it used. I sold it new to owner #1. Two weeks later he traded it back for something, and I snagged it. Dunno what to say on that! Don't think he got a replacement barrel in it, in just two weeks. And if he did... he'd have had me send it in for him. Mystery. That P220 got upgraded a few years back to the newer rebounding hammer, which is rounded and the thinner grips. Some internal parts need to be changed when you do that, like the mainspring stuff, and the little block at the back of the frame (which I always thought was steel, but is polymer on the older and newer pistols).

It also amazes me how folks love the Sig "Von Stavenhagen" sights (dot the i), but dislike the Kahr dot the i sight, which is identical.

Carry on, and congrats!

Always liked the looks of the 220 SAS, liked the DAK trigger version.

For some reason we just don't match up well. The safety and stuff just don't fit my hand well.

Those that have had them love them. I might keep trying, maybe I can adapt.

Same here, nice guns (like the look of 2tango2's), but they don't sing to me. The closest I came to keeping one for very long was this single action version:

That's the first round I ever put through it, but it ended up being a safe queen until I traded it for something else.

I did pick up a Shield in 45 and like it, but it went right back to S&W to have the thumb safety replaced (found it was dinged up after getting all the lube wiped off).

BTW 2tango2,
Thank you for posting about the new style grip for your P320. While I didn't buy a new style grip, I did get the forward facing slide stop levers for my P250 and like them much more :)

I could probably get along ok with that single action version, never seen one in person before. It does look rather big and cumbersome but that usually doesn't deter me.
I think it was mostly that big sweeping motion to decock that cause me grief.
That and it didn't naturally point for me for some unknown reason.

I guess not everybody can get along with every gun out there although I certainly try hard as I can and I still love em.

What kind of barrel is that?

Probably a stock barrel but he had it jeweled. Looks mighty fine huh?

Jeepster got good taste, even the green is beginning to grow on me but slowly.

I've got three Sig guns.
Old school pre-stainless nickel plated FS P220/45, P239/357 and my latest aquisition 1995 P229/357.
The FS P220 is a nice gun.
But it's really big for it's 7+1 capacity (HK USP Tactical 45 12+1 replaced it for carry)
P239, like the P220, is really big for it's capacity (HK P2000 and P2000SK replaced it for carry).

But the Secret Service P229/357?
This one does sing to me:cool:
12+1 357 Sig in a compact sized pistol is absolutely perfect for belt carry.
Shoots like a laser and handles the hot 125 gr 1,375 fps GDHPs like a kitten.
Twin Mec-Gar +2 14 round reloads in a horizontal Bianchi Accumold mag pouch rounds out the ensemble.

Hi Barth. I still have my old FS nickel P220 too. It's a fine shooter, but strictly a range gun and collector's item - too big to carry except maybe under a heavy jacket. It is fairly light compared to the new 220's. However my other SIG, a C3, is a delight. It's a 4 and a half inch 1911, and is my most accurate 1911, including the FS Springfield. I also think it's my prettiest pistol.

I had a 220..................nice firearm but the Sig grips were always a bit chubby for my mitts. Never had an issue with it, and it was a smooth shooter.

That is a pretty pistol O'Dell.

I've got a P239 SAS DAK in .40, a superb gun, the extra size lets it shoot very easily. I'm on my 5th 220 [don't ask] and this one is not going anywhere, they just shoot great for me. Try the Blade Tech IWB holster, it carries very comfortably. Also, have a 2022 in .40, it is one of my favorite guns to shoot.
