Hi all -first Kahr gun related post other then my new member introduction.
So here is my story - while I was out getting supplies for an oil change in my wife's car this weekend - between the place where I buy the filter and the place where I buy the oil - is one of my most favorite pawn shops, I "all most" did not stop - but then why not - Right?

In the case was a Kahr CW45 - I've always admired the Kahr's but never really thought I'd own one.

$190.00 (plus sales tax) WHAT!
I asked what's wrong? Typo? Wanted for murder? What?

The guy at the counter said it was put up on pawn, partially paid off then the owner never paid the last portion off to pick it up, so the pawn shop owner put it up for what they are owed - he did say it was JUST put out, 5 or so minutes before I walked through the door.

I took it home, cleaned it (very dirty but all cleaned up well and looks fully serviceable) and the only issue I could identify was the metal tab on the magazine which I believe is the tab the slide stop engages to lock the slide back on empty was protruding so far out that the magazine that the magazine would load one round and then the tab on the follower hit the magazine body not allowing the follower to retract in to the magazine body when trying to load more than the first round.

Leatherman fixed that - I pushed the tab back in to the body of the follower and was able to easily load all 6 rounds.
I did not get to fire it this weekend as I already had my Sunday list of "to do's" full but hope to get out this weekend.

I realize that should the gun function, this magazine will be marked/painted as a range magazine not intended for carry - and I'll order 3 new mags before it goes in to service.

I purchased 300 rounds of ball from three different manufactures to put it through its paces - but man, I was not intending to purchase a gun, was not intending to join the .45ACP group, I was not intending to buy a Kahr (normal carry is J frame .38sp)

While I've had in the past Glock 26, 19, 17 they've all come an gone along with Ruger SR9C a SIG P229 .40S&W - I always defaulted back to my S&W .38's and .357 revolvers and two other revolvers from Ruger SP101 and SecuritySix .357

Dumb luck I suppose will be nice to run a new to me semi-auto - will report back once I run it at the range.

Hi all - good to be a new member.
Hope to get to know you all and appreciate all the through "how to" threads I've been reading this weekend here to get up to speed with my new to me CW45.

With your revolver background, you are going to take to the Kahr trigger right away. Let us know how you like it once you'v shot it.

Dayum, talk about being in the right place at the right time. 190 bucks. Pinch me and tell me it wasn't a dream.

Good for you.

Enjoy. If you find you don't like it, put me at the top of the I'll take it list. I suspect your gonna love it.

I never have that kinda luck.

You could skip the Kahr mags and buy some 1911 mags and have 7+1. There's a thread on that here, it worked perfectly for me.

In fact, I keep scratching my head wondering why I sold my CW45.

JohnR I was REAL interested in the threads I've been reading on that and it looks like I too will be trying them out - thanks though for the reply.

I was out getting supplies for an oil change.....between the place where I buy the filter and the place where I buy the oil - is one of my most favorite pawn shops

First... you get the oil and the filter in two different places? Tell just what's up with THAT!

Second... location, location, and location. A gun friendly spot between two places that cater to guy stuff, like oil and fitlers. What more could a man want, other than a good barbershop, with nearly nekkit wimmenz, and a place to have a good drink.

Maybe somebody will open up a gunshop/barbershop, with good food n strong drinks, with an all female staff of natural blonds and redheads.

Sigh.

There used to be gun shop not far off from me that was next to a nursery. A big nursery.

I thought it was brilliant, the woman go off and look at posies and we get to look at guns. They moved a little but still in the same town. The nursery is gone. Good shop too, lots of inventory.

Great while the pair lasted.

You bring back memories - growing up in southern New Hampshire there WAS a bait shop / barber shop in the bordering town - and if you LOOOOOOOOKKEEEDDDDD real close the bait cooler had beer on the bottom... most likely to keep the old cooler level on the inside...
Mum's the word. right?

Back to the first question.
Autozone here is about the only place I can find Mobil1 oil filters but the Mobil1 oil is $32 for a 5qt jug -
Walmart (like them or hate them) has the 5qt jug of Mobil1 for $23 -

Worth me driving to and fro for my oil change, except THIS oil change cost me what... 12+23+190= $234.00
Oh well... them's the breaks for being pickie I suppose ;)

Yep. I would have unintendedly bought that one too...in a heartbeat. I haven't changed my own oil and filter in years. But I have unintendedly bought a couple firearms just shopping for shotgun shells. Expensive habit that trap range...

Back to the first question.
Autozone here is about the only place I can find Mobil1 oil filters

Try the K&N, same filter inside, made by the same company - Champion Labs. Has the nut and better shell outside.

I usually get oil at Wally's too, or, sometimes they have a K&N or Mobil 1 special at Autozone if you look at the flyer.

Then again, buy three and they're cheaper on Amazon, for either filter.

^ Good point, I also run K&N -Wmart only sells Fram filters oil/air etc around here. Autozone has all the makers.
I just recently picked up an Amazon prime account, good thinking I'll have to look in to that - now if Amazon only sold ammo and shipped 2 day....

Well folks we have a winner (but I suppose you all already knew that didn't you?)
With the exception of the pin moving out of the magazine follower every time, she ran like a top through 300 rounds. (ball)

Shoot 6 or 7 take leatherman push pin in, load magazine - wash - rinse - repeat x300

When running some double taps, I had one failure to bring my finger far enough forward to reset the firing mechanism - stupid human mistake but the gun never once failed to load or eject.

One empty case pasted me center forehead but the rest were over the shoulder 3 feet or so back behind me in a neat little pile.

So pay day I get three new mags, 300 more rounds and some hollow points and call it a good to go gun after I check the mags.
Parting beauty shot: 300 rounds.

I guess I'm going to have to start changing my own oil again.

Dirty little bugger!

3 Boxes of 100 rounds of ball
3 Different manufacturers
I believe the most dirty was the last box of 100 Remington UMC value pack

....Important part though, it went BANG 300 times with no failure to feed, eject or fire.
I chambered a round, topped off the magazine and proceed to beat the poop out of it (pointing downrange)
SLAMMED it down on the magazine, right side, left side, top
Fired three rounds, repeated the CW45 HEY MAKARANA still no failure to feed, eject or fire - emptied magazine.
Why? Used gun and I feel the need to be positive about its internal organs.

(magazine fix)

Dropped on the ground (packed dirt, but its Idaho dust is everywhere) went bang 6 more times.

Overall good feeling a bout the gun as a keeper - next up new mags, more rounds and a selection of hollow points

Now accepting suggestion on your favorite hollow points.
(Or is there a thread already?)
