I saw MKIIIs on closeout yesterday at KYGUNCO, so wondered when this would happen. I will want one too. Sigh.

Is this the new gun they were giving away without telling the participants what it was?

I don't know. Ruger has a blurb on their website saying that the sweepstakes winner will be announced on their facebook page this week, but that hasn't happened yet.

Here's the MK IV page at Ruger:
http://ruger.com/products/markIV/overview.html (http://ruger.com/products/markIV/overview.html)

Davidson's has them listed, but show zero stock.

As the owner of two Volquartsen equipped MKIII's that have had all their internals replaced, I would wait to see what Ruger did to Lawyer proof themselves. I was never one to struggle with Ruger MK models field strip process. There are plenty of videos that make this all of a under one minute from field strip back to reassembly.
This may be the perfect time to pick up a MKIII at a bargain price.

Greg, you would enjoy my 22/45 which has a alloy Volquartsen frame. That gun is a shooter.

That pivot pin front of the grip section looks crappy and cheap. Wish they would of found a better way to lock it up. The takedown pin in the rear looks like an improvement on the older MK II and III's, but I wonder if people will have problems down the road with the gun "opening" during a shoot.

It's about time they came around and improved the disassembly/reassembly. I have a Mark II that I hardly use because I dislike the reassembly so much. They say it'll get easier - mine is barely used so very tight still. But shooting it is a pleasure for sure. But having to get out a Youtube video to figure out the reassembly and almost to the point of needing a mallet to get it together is the reason mine is for sale locally.

Well, maybe the Mark IV will make the used Mark I's, II's and III's come down in price!

Don't think so CJB, the MKII actually increased in price when they came out with the MKIII. All the MKIII added was government induced and required built in safety devices.

I got my MKIII 22/45 Lite where I want it with all of the add-ons, so I don't need the new one, but it's nice to see that they are trying to improve things. I wonder what the trigger is like... had to really upgrade my Ruger .22's... terrible triggers. And I got rid of the magazine safety with the Majestic kit.

My local LGS (http://arnzenarms.com/) which sells at very competitive prices, has a 6.88" Hunter at $619 and a 5.5" Target at $525

I am not a buyer, but I am anxious to handle one.

I bet I would :) I like the grips you have on your 22/45!
I see you've replaced the LCI in both of those guns. We did that on a buddy's 2/45. It turned out to be quite a job as the pin didn't want to come out...ended up drilling the pin and super gluing a paperclip in the hole, then it pulled right out. Hope your replacements went a lot smoother.

My MKIII 22/45 lower has a mixture of Volquartsen, Tandemkross, and Ruger parts in it. It's also a good shooter :)

Can I get a Mk IV with stag?
I'd guess not from the factory, but if you know someone who makes grips I'd think it possible;):p:D

I'm all for any changes Ruger makes that gets their pistols back to more like a Mk II. Never did like the Mk III in Target or 22/45 varieties.

When I was shooting Bullseye competition, informally at the local police range, where they had a FOPA sponsored "fun" match once a month, I shot a Gold Cup and a Mark II. The Mark II was a blued one, stock sights except no "white outline", which was sort of unnecessary for a Bullseye gun. Trigger job was my own, and it had a Jim Clark trigger, which I modified to include a take up adjustment screw. It broke cleanly at 3lbs even and the limitation on that pistol was me, not the pistol. I was shooting 260-270 something in rimfire, with maybe ten or twelve X's. Not great, but it was a fun thing and I enjoyed it. Sometimes I got the trophy, usually I didn't but that didn't matter. Center fire... er... lets not go there! :)

The 22/45 seems like it would have been the best to shoot with, but this was back in the 80's, so... ya know, it hadn't come out yet.

I never had a problem with disassembly or reassembly of the Mark II. I had a the longer barrel... wazzit six and a half or so, in the "Standard" .22 Automatic Ruger and it shot well too, but the heavier Mark II was for more formal shootin'.

Eventually, I put a scope on that Mark II and we used to shoot clay birds, and pieces of clay birds, at 100 yards measured, from sandbags on a picnic table. Could nail a clay any ol' time with that pistol when the wind wasn't too bad. The guns are up to it, well beyond offhand shooting capability of the vast majority of shooters.

After watching YouTube videos on the MK IV, the concept looks to be a major improvement. Everything on the top end comes off the frame with the push of a button. Now, how the internals perform will tell the tale.

For the average new shooter who constantly asks our group what should I buy? If they were not mechanical, I went to the Buckmark or the new Victory.

Now, based on all the experience and rounds through my Rugers, it will be the MK IV
