The NFA backlog from the July deadline is staggering. I mean... its like the 1970's and 1980's all over again. Its not that they're "dribbling through the pipeline", its that the pipeline is backed up till just before the end of days.

NFA tracker shows Febuary's forms being filled in September. Ok, thats a little slower than what I had with my Serbu (mine was 4 months). However - from July1 to July12 the received eForm submissions has approached an entire years worth, at just over one million submissions. Normal yearly submissions (lately) is about 1.3 to 1.4 million NFA arms transactions.

Backup.... according to the lady I spoke to, estimated at 14-16 months for July submissions.

And ain't that a fine how-do-you-do?

Weird. I know friends who applied in May 2016 and got their approval last week. All five are current LEO's and have previous NFA approvals. I would guess that previous approvals means a current app gets fast tracked. Years ago I was told that that primary delaying issue beyond volume of apps was applicant mistakes on the paperwork. With the proliferation of NFA Trusts I have to wonder how much that is burdening and slowing the process.

I think LEO means fast track. Looks like April's subs are getting thru the faucet right about now, maybe up to first of May. The other thing - its taking up to five weeks - FIVE WEEKS - between approval and the stamp's arrival. I have no idea what that's all about. Some taking three weeks. Mine last one took five days.

Well prior to mid July, there was two options - individual, requiring CLEO signoff, and Trust. The CLEO needs to be verified if doing that, and the Trust needs to be verified (just read it for the proper inclusions to be present, and notary seal present). Dunno which takes longer but... there's a whole lot of subs.

If you think - 1.3million to 1.5 million per year, thats over 25,000 subs per week. Jeeze. Now take a million more in two weeks time, and you've gone from 25,000 to 775,000 in a weeks time. They do FIFO (its what I was told) so when they hit that logjam its gonna be a mess.

And I'm in the thick of it too 8(

FIFO is the away it is supposed to work. Also what you are registering has an effect. I know a neighbor that tried for over 30 months to get the paperwork to bring an HK MP9 into the USA. He finally gave up and withdrew his application. In the past cans and SBR's pretty much slid thru. Full Auto was a FULL STOP. I guess the Feds just put those in the file in hopes that the requestor gets tired and withdraws. It would be interesting to know how may of each type get registered each year, Can vs SBR vs Full Auto. Even LEO Agencies are having difficulties with getting Burst Fire weapons.

New FA is nada, done, finito.

Existing FA transfers are in da same boat as all the rest.

For private owners yes. For governmental entities such as LEO agencies they are still allowed, for now but that could change in Nov. Also FA for citizens could open up in Nov if the proper candidate wins.

I think you are misinformed.

Private FA has nothing to do with new FA.

All existing FA weapons, as of.. .whatever that date was in the late 1980's.... are ok to transfer, no problem. Newly manufactured (including conversions) or imported FA are prohibited. In other words - there is a fixed number of FA weapons in the pool, and that's that.

LE agencies can purchase newly mfg/converted/imported (or existing) FA with their exemption. There is no stop on that, and those may be fast tracked, dunno.

There are lots of FA paperwork going through, prior to backlog-city in ATF land.

So its not "new transfers" that is the issue, but "new additions to the post-ban weapons pool".

Not set in stone, it is always subject to change with the correct choice for the WH. My neighbor is a Class 3 Dealer and even transfers of existing pre-ban FA is on the super slow track. For the past several years those transfers that under previous administrations took weeks and maybe months are now taking many, many months and even a year and longer. Even LEO agencies are having difficulties getting their needs met under their "exemption", for example a local LEO agency has been waiting over a year for parts for their HK FA's. The neighbor/dealer who was trying to import the HK MP9 for a LEO entity, should have been granted an exemption. Many class 3 folks feel that if HC is elected NFA items will become an endangered species. With a D in the WH and D control of the House and/or Senate, if that happens the floodgates to banishment will be thrown wide open.
