This has got to be a first....

And I was there!

And it is me!

And I'm pissed off, and yet, I'm not pissed off. Its more like shock.

Ok, here's what happened. I made a lengthy trip to the not so local Harbor Freight, to get an el cheapo heat gun.

They wanted my name, phone number, and address.

Nope. I'm paying cash, please just take my money. The heat gun was $14.99, and I had $16.00 at the ready.

They NEED to have my name, phone number, and address. They did not believe that I was (jokingly) Barack Obama, phone number unlisted, and my address was 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington DC

Please take my money. First, they NEED to have the name phone and address, and now, email address too.

I told him, put YOUR name and information in the blanks. Can't do that I'm told. Well put your MOTHER's name in then, let her get the annoying email and junk mail.

Here comes Ms. ethnic, the porcine manager. "Wuh seem to be da problum?" The clerk said I insulted his mother. No, I just said put her on the mailing list instead of me. Clerk says.... why should she get all the fliers we send instead?

My reply - IF IT AINT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOUR OWN MOTHER, DON'T TRY TO PASS IT OFF ON ME!

Ms "ethnic doo" with the "super-size me" bootie flies off the handle. "Dats it sucka, yu band, yu band fo life! Donchu come back no mo' in dis place. Yu outa he fo life!"

I put the sixteen bucks on the counter, took the heat gun, and told 'em to keep the change.

This is my f'n Saturday folks.... what a trip.

Wow, never heard nothing like that before.

Used to be Big 5 sporting goods always wanted a zip code for some reason but never name and address.

Reminds me, I need to get a cheap heat gun too. My son moved out, bought a house and took his with him.

There are other places that ask for the same info at checkout time. When they ask me, I tell them that they really don't need it. If they don't accept that answer, I leave the product on the line, and leave.

I'll buy your heat gun and pay for shipping too from the Florida swamp land if I can send the money to CJB and he will go buy it at his Harbor Freight. I want to hear a chapter 2 of this story.

No good deed goes unpunished.

The significant other, a damsel of fine upbringing in the UK, who is neither short on bosom nor opinion, let me have it.

She says, it was probably the kids first day, the manager was being protective of her new hire, and I went and F'd it all up with my (and I quote) "bleedin' cockup".

Time for bourbon, since I can't win.

If they don't know your name, how can they ban you? Rhetorical question, I know.

Lots of places ask for phone numbers or email. Once, it was a young hottie cashier and for just a fleeting moment I wondered if she was flirting with me, but I remembered I'm an ugly old fart who's probably older than her dad.

I always smile and decline and the checkout girls always cheerfully say, "no problem."

oh its not like I take heed of that woman's warning... its just the ludicrous nature of the whole thing, and her off the cuff hit the panic button demeanor

I am not worried, could care less about the "ban" and if I need something quick and cheep, no worries, I'll go back because they got both quick and cheep.

duuuudes........really? Its time to have a moniker, fake addy, email addy and phone number. They just have to fill in the blanks, they don't verify the info nor do so while you wait. This is the new way of doing business.

For instance:
I am Victor Bawana( with one N)
address 1014(month and day of B day) Kahr St

email is easy. just take the name you just gave and add @ gmail or what every service you are currently using

You are done. Minimal effort and easy to do on the fly. Why fight a system you will NEVER change.

Use ebay and PayPal.

Oh, Amazon, eBay (sometimes), NewEgg, and specialized vendors (who almost always beat Amazon, even with eBay, and usually cheaper than NewEgg). No issue when I got the time for shipping. This day, I did not. Hope to have that antenna up by noon-ish today, after many hours of working on it.

Yah, must be getting slow. All I could think of was BHO. Sad for me. In my own defense, I was without coffee all week, because it got missed on shoppin' night. And pretty much had to wait till I got into town to buy some. Maybe the brain will re-engage.

Have to commit to memory - Elwood Blues, 1060 West Addison, Chicago Ill, 62whatever it is.

(Yup, Wrigley Field!)

The first problem I see is you went to Harbor Freight....they only sell cheap junk made in China for the most part. Why do you think they can offer coupons for 5 million percent off?
I would guess you were dealing with a minimum wage employee! Go in again and pay with $2 bills to test the cashiers skills. They will want to arrest you for counterfeit .:banplease:

Great Idea Victor, I just registered at our local Harbor Freight as "Harry", last name "Palms".

They took it, but for some reason didn't want to shake hands after the transaction.

Kids tend to do that with dad's stuff. My three boys fairly emptied my workbench numerous times over the years. Got tired of replacing everything, so if anything needs fixin' I just call one of them to come over & fix it.

Last things I got from Harbor Freight were a couple of the small size furniture dollies for $7.99 each. Use them to stack my ammo crates on - saves a hernia each time I rummage through the stash. For $7.99 I could hardly buy a set of just those caster wheels.

Zip code request is to see how far away customers will come from. Helps them decide where to locate stores. I will give them that, but if the want more I just tell them I don't give out that information without getting their personal information in return. That usually ends the problem.
