I always kept a separate checkbook but used cash most of the time.

$1000 in glovebox of car. I have never made a credit card transaction for a firearm.
Having learned from way back in the day previous relationships, wife and I have separate financials and defined responsibilities to the household and retirement funding. No money fights in 30 years.

And here...my problem is my one German Shepard rats me out all the time! Everytime I bring something new in the house she will sit in front of where ever it is and stare at it! Wife comes in and goes what you looking at Kodi? Dog gives a big sh!t grin, then walks away.

Love ol' Kodi even if he's a blabbermouth - great lookin' dawg. ;)
Never get any flack from the wife when I buy a gun - she knows she's going to get a custom bauble from my jeweler friend. Expensive, but we'll celebrate our 50th in June.

Kill the dog. Seriously, hide some dog treats in other places.

While working at Cabela's, I had it down to a T. I'd put whatever firearm caught my interest on lay away and then made seeming innocent "purchases" until paid off. The "purchases" were in the amounts of, say, $59.36 or $74. 95 or just some random amount. I was always buying stuff and bringing it home and she never cared what it was but she had said more than a few times I had more than enough firearms. The only tricky part was getting it in the house.
To this day, she still doesn't have a clue what I've got. If she ever asks about anything I just tell her I've had that old thing for years, much the same as she does with clothes, shoes, baubles, etc.

Oh there is no side tracking her. No matter what it is she points it out, even new book in book case. She has an attitude.

"Always own enough guns so if one is added to or taken from the collection, your spouse of significant other will never notice the difference."
