Kahr CW-45 Question.

New to the forum and Kahrs in general. I just picked up a Kahr CW-45 and I've been checking it out a bit. The handbook says to use the slide release to load the first round. When my slide is locked back and I put a magazine in the slide lever won't release. Could it be because I'm trying it with a dry mag? Will it release properly with a loaded mag? I live in the city so I'm not trying to mess with this thing loaded at home. Thank you for your time.

By design the follower of an empty magazine rises to the top and pushes against the actuator of the slide lock to keep the slide open on empty. Remove the empty magazine or let it down a bit and the slide lock is easily operated to release the slide. A full magazine, of course will allow the lever to work, too. The follower is below the cartridges. This is in the manual and there has been added an extra yellow sticker on the plastic bag of the manual with this information because that question comes up a lot, as does the "chip" missing from the left frame steel rail... a manufacturing index point.

Q. Why is it difficult to close the slide on an empty magazine?

A. The slide release on the Kahr pistol has been designed to warn the shooter when the magazine is empty. When the slide is held open on an empty magazine, the slide release is very hard to depress. To easily release the slide, either remove the empty magazine or replace it with a loaded magazine. Depressing the slide release will then be much easier.

A. The top rails on the Kahr polymer pistol are designed to minimize stress. It may not appear to be symmetrical because of its design.

A. This is a witness mark for the polymer frame manufacturer and is present by design.

It should work ok with a loaded mag. the mag spring is pretty stiff. lube it good and use factory ammo the first couple of range sessions too.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies, I can't wait to take it to the range. I kind of figured it was due to the magazine being dry but I just wanted to make sure. Anyways thanks again, and I look forward to being part of this community.
