Just a Saturday AM update before I get out the door to get some new linings for the back of my old Ranger....

I still carry one of my PM45's almost every day, but I gotta tell ya.... that little Charter .44 Boomer is a sweet little item. Barely larger than a J-Frame, with five shots of .44 Special. You can get some real decent .44Spl for SD, or those .44Russian which are cheaper, and seem to pack the same whollop as the "good stuff". Never thought I'd cozy up to the .44 Special, but I think it has made a new fan.

I get a bit jealous when the wife carries her SP 101. .357 or .38 special. I've always had a soft spot for wheel guns. Down to semi's for the present, but may have to barter/trade, and find me another wheeler. Yeah, a .44 will do the trick.

The SO has a Ruger LCR in .357 and carries (seldom) 38 wadcutters in it.

The .44 special, with the right loads, is not a bad round at all for SD. In the same league as .45acp, or very very close to it.

The Pitbull is a fun, and fine handgun. The .45's do well in it, and I have had one little issue which Charter corrected quickly and painlessly. The BOOMER is great too, and a whole lot smaller. Its a LOT smaller.... I carried the Pitbull but prefer the Boomer these days. The .44 Russian ammo isn't loaded down and packs a punch. The JHP .44 specials are damn near flying ashtrays too.

Back to the .357 LCR.... I've bought three of 'em. One was stolen (with my PM9j Kahr), and one was given as a gift. The other is the SO's and really.... I wish she'd shoot it more often, but she's a strong willed so-and-so, so there's no arguing with her will.

I liked the LCR, except, the lack of user parts kept me a bit shy. The only user purchasable/serviceable part is the grip screw. THAT IS IT! Other than that, back to the factory! Even for a front sight pin. Totally lawyer'd out!

I am very happy with Charter's revolvers, and their service.

Both Charters I own have smooth actions, lock up well, and shoot 100 percent. Accuracy... ya know snubbies... depends on ammo, the shooter, the target, and the range lighting. For real SD accuracy, I'd hit a torso at 5 to 7 meters with zero difficulty. After that I'd have to try, just a little! Those Charter Arms revolvers come a bit rough and gritty, but become smooth with shooting/dry-firing. If you recall a Ruger Security/Speed/Service-Six, then you know the drill. Dry fire a bunch and you end up with a really nice slicked up revolver.

One of those wheelies that I am still kicking myself for selling..................and a sweet trigger................ ..9mm.....................I sold it to a guy who fell down and screwed up his wrist big time. Surgery and no more racking slides, so I did him a favor, and he paid me well in return. He still wanted to shoot with the wife.

Oh man! I had a .44 Mag "Lew Horton" special model. It was 2-1/2 inch of blue steel (not stainless) agony. It looked great, it shot great, but good God damn man, it beat up the shooter! The first knuckle on my middle finger still remembers on cold days!

I sold that gun, the original buyer brought it back two weeks or so later. I picked it up as "used". I had it a month or so, and sold it to another range employee, who had it a month and sold it to yet another range employee... we're running out of saps to buy this thing! It finally went onto the used display and got sold, got outta the range for good!

Its like a boomerang. How can you throw one away? You can't. Same with that Lew Horton... jeeze it hurt to shoot.

OTOH, the Boomer is not so bad. A little worse than the very mild shooting Pitbull in .45 acp. Not bad at all for an under 20 oz gun.

Yup, my 38 oz 4" Mountain Gun would have my hand bleeding at about the 50 round mark
shooting full power 240 gr Federal rounds.
It's truely a Hand Cannon.
These days I pretty much just shoot specials - LOL!

Mine wasn't blood, it was the gonzo whollop of the trigger guards rear portion against my knuckle (and everyone elses) and no K frame grips helped one iota (it was N frame with K round butt grip).
