Hello forum, my name is Brian, I left a pretty detailed post in the new members thread as to some of my story. I'm posting because I have two questions about my recently acquired K 40 pistol. I bought it used and really have no knowledge of how many rounds went through it so far. I've already ordered a 22 pound recoil spring and new factory weight striker spring. My first question is what else should I be looking to swap in order to get the inside of the gun like new again. The second question is about the three or four tool (punch) marks you can see in the posted picture. To me they look like three punch marks and I can't imagine how the barrel or guide rod could've created them. Has anyone ever encountered this before? I'm not overly concerned about it as on the guns first range trip with me it performed flawlessly. I do also notice that with the slide closed I can easily push it back about half inch with very little tension. I don't know if this is considered normal or the new guide rod will take care of that. Thanks for your time, Brian

As far as springs, you might consider refreshing the magazine springs as well.

Brian, I'm a firm believer in if it isn't broken, don't fix it. It shot perfectly and reliably for you so you should be good to go.
A recoil spring isn't a bad thing to have on hand. If it isn't balking I'd probably put it in and make sure it works but probably take it right back out and keep it for a spare until if ever it balks.
I've never heard of a striker spring wearing out. I would take your slide apart and make sure the striker channel is clean and free of any debri. Again not bad insurance to replace the spring since you got it apart but keep the old one although you'll most likely never need it.
Have to see the picture to determine what your talking about there.
There are marks on the bottom of the slide that indicate new style and old style slides so we'll wait to see what your talking about there.

I don't know what those little round marks are. I don't see how they will hurt anything for that matter either. But, I have no idea how they could have gotten there. And, I haven't seen them before on a Kahr, or really any pistol.

We've seen dimples but usually on the other end. Actually a dimple or no dimple to determine early model or late etc.
Those were apparently done on purpose, not sure what they mean.
Something on the line perhaps, a blem, or some such thing.
I don't have a solid answer.

They look like marks from testing hardness of the metal, to be sure it is tough and not brittle. My guess anyway as a hardness tester leaves marks just like that. If so, it's a good thing. Some companies test a few samples from a batch being heat treated, and that would indicate to me my slide passed!
