Back in the late 80's, I didn't have a lot of money at the time, but needed some winter boots. I saw a pair of Texas Steer insulated leather boots for $25 at the local Kmart. Now, I hate shopping for clothes/shoes, I hate buying clothes/shoes, I hate trying on clothes/shoes, but, my canoe feet needed boots, and these actually fit. Didn't have to slap me twice. Fast forward to the other day, I'm out snow blowing, STILL wearing these $25 boots and they still don't have any holes, and they are still good. Bad part is, is that they are 9 1/2's, and I wear 10 1/2. The wife yells at me and says that I should find a new pair. Well, lucky me...........the Kmart's are having a sale on Texas Steer boots. I fly over to the mart, and it's bussssssssssy. I go to the boot aisle, and I find what I'm looking for. 10 1/2's. They only have 2 pair left, and someone was fooling with one pair. I grab up the unmessed with pair, and head towards the checkout. I'm in the line, just about ready to pay for them, $34.95 by the way, a good deal on insulated, waterproof, oil resistant boots, and the clerk says, " Did you know that you can get another pair for a dollar?" I'm like, Really? I stop, and get out of line so I can think about this. I'm thinking that there's only one more pair my size, and they were looking a bit rough. I head back towards the shoes, and right in the middle of an aisle, on top, are boxes and boxes of these boots, in every size known to man. I look to the right, and there is a stack of more of the same. Yes................................I get back to the regular shoe aisle, and there is a Spanish woman with who I believe was her son, and they were looking at boots. There was a bit of a language barrier between us, but to make a long story short, I veered her towards the same boots that I was going to purchase. She had her son try some on, and he found some that fit. I had to try to explain that if she gave me the boots and a dollar, she could have the boots after I paid for them. I finally just grabbed the boots, I paid the dollar, and when they came out of the store, I gave her the boots. She said Merry Christmas in English, I said the same, and off we went. The wife and I are heading up nort, to spend Xmas in the woods. To me, that's the kind of stuff that Xmas is all about. I hope that everyone and their families have a wonderful holiday, and be safe out there................

Good on you, sir!

And I can attest to the Texas Steer brand of boots from Kmart. Bought a pair way back when for hunting for a very reasonable price. Ended up using them for 10 years or so until the sole were just about worn smooth. Went to a local cobbler (not even sure if they even exist today) and he wanted three times what I paid for the boots to replace the soles.

Went back to Kmart and found me another pair which I still have today, about 10-15 years later. They are still in very good shape, throw some mink oil on them every year. However, truth be told, I now have 6-8 pairs of boots for hunting, depending on conditions, with another 4-5 in back up that are brand new. The Texas Steers come out when it is cold, as in 10f or lower, with plenty of snow on the ground. Yep, nice heavy boots and well insulated and waterproof.
