Son in from TX for the holidays and I brought him to the range the day before Christmas to choose which revolver would suit him best as a "house gun".

I grabbed a S&W 640 which I like for its all steel construction, simplicity, and it's concealability along with a Mod. 64 with a 3" barrel which is singly one of the easiest firearms to point and shoot I have ever held.

He left with the 3" Mod.64 but I suspect I will also bring him the 640 when I visit him in Feb.

This is a good excuse for me to order one each of the new Mod 66 & 69's with a 2-3/4" barrels that S&W is introducing.

Odd you mention that gun as it was the Christmas present I gave to my daughter last year.

I never warmed up to the stacking trigger of the Colt revolver lineup.

Or the "backwards cylinder release" or the reverse rotation of the cylinder....Smith is the real deal....Colt was a wannabee.:2rolleyes:

After feeling the triggers on some of the newer Smith's, I don't think there's room to complain about Colt's. They feel gritty and about 15 lbs.:o

Well, there always the Smython (or, if you prefer, Smolt) option :) :

340, I was messing with you, the point was that the pythons are in the $3k and up range.
I have 2 S&W's love 'em both...
It was very generous of you to gift them. :)

The Python phenomenon is interesting. Many serious publishers and collectors believe it comes from the "younger" crowd that were inspired by the TV show "The Walking Dead". I am not, but if one were so inclined, the market on Colt SSA guns has dropped a lot since these new Zombie killers flock to purchase Colt Pythons. They may now be a reasonable investment at their recently depressed price.

I'd sure like a REAL Colt SAA. I'd love it and cherish it all the rest of my born days.

My favorite local shop has two, but both are pricey.
One is engraver sampler:

The other is from 1911 and is in .38-40. It's seen some use, but I love it's look:

If I could afford either, it would be my choice:)

My choice as well! I love that to pieces.

When I inherited our property room we had a Colt SAA, 7 1/2" don't recall if it was 45 Colt or 44-40 but it was blued in decent condition except for a ding to the front sight. It was used in a robbery or something and was thrown out of a car or fell off the roof and that was the only damage.

The previous property officer said it was a modern replica, but I cried BS. I fondled that gun everytime I went to the property room.

Finally years ago the new chief wanted to auction to dealers only. Several dealers came to view the pile of guns we were able to auction and each one immediately went for the Colt first. All wanted to go outside in better light and all agreed it was the real deal.

As I recall we got 7,000 bucks just for that one gun and the dealer who won offered to sell it to me on the spot for that same number. He sensed I was in love I guess. Course 7,000 might as well have been 7 million to a poor dirt farmer like me.
It was fun while it lasted.

Only other gun out there that had that effect on me was a mint Daisy Red Ryder Roy Rogers edition BB gun. It was SWEET!

Alas it's gone now too. And I no longer do the property which is good by me. I still get to see most of the guns that come in as the new property lady don't know a lot nor does she care but I'm trying to share the love for them with her. So far not going too well, but gaining.

Kind of makes Greg's Stag handled Colt look like a 7/11 burrito price wise.

Dang that thing would look good on me................................
