View Full Version : Failure to feed first round in CW380

Bought the cw380 about 18 months ago. First range trip, I had a couple instances of failure to feed on the first round after mag change. The firing pin had not retracted, and the rim of the round was hung under it. Field stripped it and checked it out, didn't notice anything wrong. Next trip, same thing. Set the gun aside to think about it, and it just lay until recently. Tried it again, same thing. Not every mag change, but it happens.
Here's I have found; gun unloaded, pull trigger and hold it back; retract slide, notice firing pin is protruding. Pull slide all the way to rear and start letting it go forward. Pin retracts when slide lacks about 1/2-3/4" being in battery. I don't see anything in parts breakdown that would retract it earlier, but can't really tell absolutely from that.
Works most of the time but there are signs that the firing pin is still out when barrel drops down when pistol cycles. Want to carry it but don't trust it at this point. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums :)
We see what you describe occasionally. I tend to believe the extractor is holding the case a little too tightly against the breech face in the guns that have this issue. On my P380, I can duplicate the extractor sticking out as I feed a round, but the round has some wiggle room and will move a little when contacting the striker and just feed past it (pretty much pushing the striker back into the slide).
My suggestion would be to read this thread: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?26232-Found-solution-to-FTF-and-failure-to-return-to-battery-on-CW-380 (http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?26232-Found-solution-to-FTF-and-failure-to-return-to-battery-on-CW-380)
While the thread addresses something else, I believe the "fix" described in the thread will also remedy your issue. It seems to have done so for a forum member in this thread: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?29958-New-CW380-w-Night-Sights-Problems (http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?29958-New-CW380-w-Night-Sights-Problems) (see post #6)

JohninNC, if you've been dry firing it, the striker may be protruding into the breech. To prevent the feeding problem, look at the breech before inserting the mag. If you see the striker, you can cycle the slide a 1/2 inch to retract it or just look under the slide an pull the foot of the striker back. During normal firing, it shouldn't be a problem.
