View Full Version : PM Slide On A CM Frame

Look before everyone attacks me for seemingly asking a question that has been asked multiple times, hear me out.

I am moving to CT from MA and therefore have a lot more choices of handguns. State compliance is not something I want to get into but now I will be able to purchase a Kahr.

I Have reached out to Kahr about some of the parts that are interchangeable between the CM9 and PM9. The main question I have is will the CM9 function reliably with the PM9 slide? (Still the CM9 barrel)

CM9 MSRP:$460
PM9 MSRP:$810
PM9 Slide MSRP:$145.20
PM9 Slide Stop MSRP:$24.20

Personally I love working with my hands and customizing some of my firearms. I like the PM9 slide because of the drift able front sight. Basically if I buy a CM9, buy the "upgraded" slide and slide stop, I will have a PM9 minus the polygonal barrel for approximately $629 (MSRP). Then I would be able to purchase a wider variety of night sights which is a big deal because as you all know Kahr's aftermarket night sights have trouble staying in stock.

I get this is essentially an elaborate way to get some night sights but something that I have been thinking about for weeks now. The whole idea is to get a PM9 with Night Sights minus the Polygonal barrel for less money than a standard PM9. And yes I do understand that Kahr offers CM9 with NS from the factory but I am the kind of guy to always have a back-up set.

I will end this post again with my main question, Will the CM9 function reliably with the PM9 slide? (Still the CM9 barrel)

Thanks in advance

Yes, I think the frames are exactly the same. Others will probably confirm.

Welcome to the forums:)
To answer your question, I'm going to quote another member's reply from a past thread:

The current PM9 and CM9 use the same exact frame. The slides and barrels and slide stops are different.

That has been established, even though Kahr mistakenly said nogo. The barrels will work from slide to slide too in the PM/CM series. Somebody on the forum has both, and confirmed that.
I pretty much agree with what CJB (and Alphonse) wrote, the swap should work fine, but would caution there always a chance that there might be some fitment issues when mixing/matching barrels and slides.

On a personal note, I have run a PM9 barrel in a CM9 slide without issue and a complete PM40 top end on a CM9 (again, without issue). http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?19656-Modifed-Customized-Bubba-d-my-CM9-*UPDATED*

Might I suggest, that you also check pricing in regards to having a front dovetail cut on a CM9 slide.

Other things to consider:
I wouldn't necessarily call the "P" series slide stop an upgrade over the "C" series as both have an excellent track record on these forums. I happen to like the look of the "P" series stop, so I've put them on my pistols, but YMMV. Interestingly, they cost about the same.

I believe that the style sights Truglo makes are the only sights that you can get for the PM9 that you can't get for the CM9 (without having the CM slide milled).

Regards,
Greg

BTW, be sure to check out Alphonse's products for Kahr pistols: https://lakelinellc.com/

Thank you very much Greg and Alfonse

I will definitely look into the pricing of having a dovetail cut in. I personally like the ascetics of the CM9 slide over the PM9 anyway. (Maybe I'm crazy)

Now if only we could get Alfonse to make a night front sight for the CM9 and this can all be avoided lol.

Either way thank you very much for the discussion. This forum is awesome

I had both CM and Pm's apart looking at them in a shop and they look identical except for the slide.

I was thinking about doing this with a PM45 slide on my CM45 frame... But Im afraid to try it, can't afford to toss money into the wind!

I tried it. A PM45 slide+barrel does not work on the CM45. Tried it. Wasted money on it.

Hey there (Jim?), I remember you writing that you had a spare PM45 upper (barrel & slide) and that if fit perfectly on a CM45 frame, but Kahr told you they weren't interchangeable.
Did you ever test fire that combo? If it's not too much of a bother, I'd sure like to know why it didn't work out for you.

Greg

You're not crazy at all. The CM slide is very good lookin': clean, crisp and simple. The only better looking slide is the blunt P/PM/MK/K IMHO. The current P/PM slide just doesn't do it for me. So much so that I spent extra $$$ finding my way to some blunts.

With that said I think Greg's dovetail cut solution is by far the most logical. But only if you land on a sight combination that absolutely requires it.

Its crazy how they always talk about the pm9 slide stop is one of the rasons the pm is so high when its a 25.00 part.

If you look at the two, they are very similar, but if you hold the parts, there is a difference.
IMHO the PM series gets more secondary operations, the edges are not as sharp, and the fitment is slightly better. Plus the PM barrels cost a lot more to manufacture if you include cost of capital equipment. Is the PM worth the extra cash, to me it is, YMMV.
