Back of the guide rod isn't in the right spot on the barrel. Or the spring got wrapped around the back of the guide rod and is holding it out. Take the slide off and have a look-see.

Or, did you change the guide rod for any reason and this one is longer?

Looks to me like the guide rod is not seating properly in that K9.
If everything is stock on that pistol, my first thought would be to see if the recoil spring has been installed with the ends reversed (the closed in should be nest to the button on the guide rod).

Beyond that check the components for damage, especially where the end of the guide sits in the frame.

BTW, welcome to the forums:)

Oops, I see Ken L has already suggested the the spring, I think that well done:cool:.

My K9 does that on occasion, if you look at Greg's lower picture, just north of his pinky finger there is a small ledge, sometimes the end of the guide rod catches there. If you pull the slide back you can often rock the rod a little up and down and it will snap into place.

Thanks for the replies and thanks for the welcome to the forum.

I've had this thing apart and together a hundred times and the last time i must have swapped the spring.

I'll keep fiddling with it, the slide will not come off. The spring is catching something I guess.

There's also a chance that the closed end of the spring has slipped over the button on the guide rod.

As to getting it apart: If you just let it sit on a table with the slide stop removed, is the slide back past the frame? If it is, push the slide so that it is even with back of the frame and hold it there. Then, while holding the slide forward, pull the trigger and hopefully the slide will come off.

Greg

I've gone so far as to tap it with a brass hammer, relatively hard, with the trigger pulled. The slide is even with the frame. I might be shipping this thing out to the mother ship...

How far can you move the slide forward and backwards? Far enough to the rear to reset the trigger?

Yes

Trigger does reset.

Slide moves all the way back, and all the way forward. Something is catching inside, it stops at the normal forward position and will not continue forward.

That's a puzzler. Normally, pulling a reset trigger should put the striker forward of the cocking cam and there would be nothing left to hold the slide on the pistol.

Perhaps, the recoil spring has gotten into a position where it's blocking the barrel lug.
Holding the slide back, can you push the barrel to the rear? If you can, are there any spring coils visible thru the stop hole?

Darn black magic,... have you tried putting the stop back in, then letting the slide slam home a few times to see if that frees anything up? (grasping at straws here)

Regards,
Greg

Oops, here's another thought: with the slide locked back, can you verify that the striker is under spring pressure if you move it to the rear and that you can push it all the way forward until it protrudes from the breach face (will have to depress the striker block to do this).

Please know that I'm not trying to step on your toes here, it's just I've no idea what your knowledge base is in regards to these pistols. So, if you've already tried these things, please forgive the redundancy of my suggestions.

Oh yeah, that spring is reversed.
How did you finally get it apart?

Greg

Darn it Downtown, you made me blush, but thanks :)

The end was wrapped up under the locking lug sticking into the slide lock lever slot.
No damage to frame thank goodness.
