Folks where I live like to hold a neighborhood garage sale about this time every year. I didn't sell anything myself, but it's a nice day so I took a walk to check out what was being sold. I talked with some great folks, petted a few friendly dogs, checked out some nice Jeeps, generally having a real good morning. I bought a hollow ground screwdriver set and a couple of cool handmade mugs... setting myself back about $13. Then at the last house on the loop, I see a SIGPro 2022 in 40 (with a .357 barrel) sitting on a table under my neighbor's watchful eye. We chat a bit, but I'm just that interested in his SIG (I had a 2022 in 9mm; it shot well, but I traded it for something else). He then says he has something in the safe he'd let go of if I was interested. Well, I was interested enough:

So, I now have a full size 9mm USP to compliment my 45. It looks to be in pretty good shape and came with 6 magazines, two holsters, and some magazine pouches. My neighbor seemed pleased with his 5 new Benjamins.
Now, I have to see how it shoots.
Regards,
Greg

I gave up on garage sales... except holding them... years ago... just over-priced stuff that I wasn't interested in. I never bought a firearm at one, but I sure sold a few... too cheaply!

Nice find... with a little talking. That sure sounds like a deal... especially with all of the accessories!

Isn't that what gun shows used to be? Now they're overpriced junk?

I've had gun show/garage sales where I put put most of our gun show merchandise. I advertised them that way, too. I had Wifey wear the P380 for my backup... never had any problems. I don't ask for the moon on my pricing and still don't do well. I usually have the lowest prices on mags and ammo, but I don't carry anything that I can't use, so my variety is limited, especially with ammo and mags.

Hey, thanks for the comments folks :)

Good deals can still be found at garage/yard sales in this area.

Gun shows are becoming a different story. Seems most folks are pretty proud of the firearms they have and have them priced accordingly. I do still find good deals in their periphery stuff, so I keep going to the shows (who am I kidding, I'd still go just to look).

Anyway, here's the rest of my loot from yesterday http://i67.tinypic.com/v7t5x4.gif

That's a great find at a great price for any USP in good shape, but to land a KH dated stainless is a real coup. There weren't a lot of them produced. IMHO the earlier stainless HK finish is a bit nicer looking than the current look which is a bit more buffed and shiny.

My very first HK was this USPc, same year, same caliber. It's been one of my favorites through the years.

Just had my USP out to the range last week. They are such soft and easy shooters. A gun that will go all day. I'm jealous... that garage sale find would be the perfect compliment to USPc!! Enjoy that new beauty.

Those screwdriver sets always come in handy. I had a Snap On set that I had for so long, I eventually lost all of the bits. The plastic end cap eventually cracks if you open and close it a lot. Ya can't have too many. With old fumbly fingers, the magnetic end helps when you start dropping screws:o

I finally broke down and bought a 56 bit set from Brownells. 15 or so years ago. Thought I'd never run into a screw I couldn't fit again. Wasn't 2 weeks later I ran into an old gun with them screws that are kind of half round in the slot. I really didn't want to screw those up so I modified a bit to fit. Tagged it in case I ever run into that screw again. Of course never have but I'm ready if I ever do.
The beauty is I just ordered a replacement bit for the one I modified.
I've not lost a bit yet but that set stays at my bench and the wife and kids know not to use them under penalty of dad weeping on the floor sucking his thumb.

I got the what they call the LE handle. It's got a bit shorter shank and a ring to hold the bits, not magnetic. Also a stubby and a long shank which I think are magnetic. It's served me well and gave me an appreciation for screws that aren't buggered up.

I have a smaller set at work that is in the same category. Officers always ask first and always bring it back. Everything else in my tool drawer not so much.

You got me stymied on them mugs. The handles look solid so you can't put your fingers through. Are you able to hold em with one hand?

That's a great point you made about modifying those replaceable screwdriver bits to fit the job. I had to do that for some screws on a side x side shotgun that had very narrow slots.

Greg

Hey there, thank you for the background on the stainless! Looks like you picked a winner when you started your HK journey. :)

I think I've got the exact same screwdriver set except for the color. Works OK on guns as long as they aren't a Beretta, Beretta uses those ultra thin screw slots that none of the tips will fit.

I think that's what I had too. You get into the really old stuff, the screw slots were very thin and often times radius'd at the bottom of the slot. So I had to thin and take off the corners to get a good fit.

Winchester I know had some odd ball screw heads by today's standards. Not sure what they use today is any better but different.

Forty or so years ago or so I was in my salad days and income was fortunately not a huge worry, fur coats were desired accessories for ladies that lived in colder climes. I was able to make sure lovely wife was always very appropriately dressed for winter with a variety of dead animals to cover her upper torso. In fact I remember being greeted home from work a few times by her just wearing one of those coats, a pair of very high heels, and a sexy smile, so my purchase was not all for her benefit.

Then came PETA and the paint throwers.

After consenting or having a garage sale on the condition I had nothing to do with it, I returned from work one day and watched three fur coats disappear and $75 put in my wife's hand. Months later when I was up in the garage attic for something, I noticed my old archery stuff had been moved. Upon asking I discovered, two dozen aluminum arrows, a dozen flu flu arrows, leather quiver, and a Bear semi recurve with case had brought in a fat $25.

There is a moral to this story, I just can't think of it right now. Yes, we are still married, 50 years come September.

Wow! That's why I still have a LOT of STUFF! My pricing at garage sales is NOT to just GET RID of stuff! :D
