Mine is a Springfield XDm 5.5 inch barrel, 13 + 1, 45……and I shoot it well!!
The only reason I don't have a shot gun as a bedside gun is that I also have 911 duties. Hubby is in direct line of the hallway, so he has a Mossberg 12 gauge 930 and an STI 4.0 Tactical, 14 + 1, 45.

There you go, almost Ditto here. XD-45 service model with 13+1 and a crimson trace rail master? And like you I agree they shoot well. Mine is a tack driver. Love the XD's.

What is it about a .45 as a bedside gun?
I completely agree. Here's the Beretta PX4 .45 which I keep ready to go loaded with Federal HST 230gr..

Those are good value pistols that work. Wouldn't mind having one myself.
Last year my grandson found one - right outside their back door where a mental case woman (a former neighbor) dropped it. Apparently she was interrupted in whatever she was doing when my son & his two boys came home. Grandson did what he was taught - didn't touch and told his dad, who called the police. Son thought about just keeping it, but since another neighbor had been bothered by that woman, he decided to report it. Nobody knew she was totin', so it's a good thing she isn't now.

Here is an older shot of my Scorpion bedside gun from an article I wrote for SHWAT.com. Since then I switched out the brace for the new folding one from SB Tactical.

Mine is a full size xd45,I have thought about adding a light but I worry that a intruder would instinctively grab for or swat at a light first.

John, you're a bad influence. I've been telling myself I have no need for a scorpion, then you show yours along with that CZ-75. I've been picking up too many pistols lately as it is.

What? Too many pistols? Is there such a thing?
