View Full Version : Possible trade for a PM45.

I might be trading an old S&W model 10-5 PPC gun on another forum for a Kahr PM45. As far as value I'm not too concerned with the trade. I have no use for this PPC gun and I've always liked kahr. I've had a CW45, CM9 and a CW380. I've since sold them all because at the time I needed money. I've always wanted to own a premium series Kahr but never wanted to fork over that much money, especially when I could get a value series for way less.
This particular kahr is 10 years old and he says it has less then 1000 rds through it. He said he recently sent it back to kahr due to having light strikes and they replaced a spring. He says it fires fine now.
Is the PM45 any good. I'm really a 9mm guy but I wouldn't mind having a small 45. My edc right now is a S&w 643 .38 special. Also, has anyone who shot the pm45 ever experience brass hitting you I the face? All the videos I see on YouTube show the guy taking a beating on the forehead.

I have a PM45, only about 2 years old, runs great, never had any issues what so ever. Throws the brass over my right shoulder, never got one in the face so far. Mine eats everything, no ammo issues. But.... does not work well with the extended mags. Not sure why.

Thank you for the response.
I've heard extended mags on most kahrs aren't the most reliable. I think it has to do with putting pressure on the mag with your pinky. The gun is coming with two, five round mags and two, six round mags as well.
How is the recoil in this tiny gun?

I like mine. I have been working through a couple of issues but it is a really nice gun to shoot and I think I have figured out the issue. In any case I have found reasonably priced practice rounds that feed properly and all of the self defense loads I have shot have been flawless. I find it comfortable to shoot standard rounds and some +P loads. Ironically (or not) the hardest recoiling loads are the speer gold dot short barrel loads. They are really snappy. Probably the harshest recoil I have shot from any semi-auto handgun.
I like the P series a lot. My only C series was a CW45 which was a lemon from day one. It never shot right. You name the issue, and it had it. My p380 (purchased used, one of the early models) and my PM9 have been flawless with everything I have put through them. My P380 is my EDC since it is so comfortable to carry and shoots so well. Kahr has designed a nice pistol. They could improve by adding more metal to the frame slide rails and doing away with that stupid magazine release spring screw. A firearm screw that attaches a metal spring to a plastic frame is a recipe for problems eventually.

I had a CW45 and it was a pretty good gun. My carry load for the CW was the regular speer gold dots. I didn't think it was too harsh but it was basically the size of a glock 19.
The thing I don't care for about 45 is the price of ammo. What practice rounds do you use?
.38 special ammo is expensive too but I reload, so it's dirt cheap for me. I'd like to reload 45 if I do end up picking this gun up. The only problem is you can't shoot lead through the PM barrel and jacketed billets are more expensive.

The PM is nice, but I don't think its as nice as that 10-5. But what can I say, the PM45 is unavailable here in California for most folks, I ended up with a CM45 for cost savings, dangit.

I agree with the 10-5 being a nice gun and possibly nicer then the PM45. I'm selling the 10-5 for $500.00 and he was selling the pm45 for $475.00. He approached me about the trade. I'd rather have a p9 or pm9 but I think it's a fair trade.
I purchased the 10-5 for a very good price. They retail brand new for $1255. This one is obviously used and a lot older. I just don't have a use for it. If there were PPC matches in my area I would defiantly keep it but there's not and that form of competition is rare these days.

Yep that SW is nice. But I think you'll be happy with that PM45. I've had a CM45 and now a CW45...bought new. Both needed a break-in but they are good and everything I expected. I don't think 45 recoil is that harsh...more of a hard push vs. a harsh snap. You will find that the PM45 handles it well = better than some larger guns IMHO. Good luck!
P.S. they carry great. I was carrying a K40 when I got my CM45 and they are very similar in size and I think the plastic gun was lighter.
P.S.S. 45auto rounds aren't too expensive around here. I just saw 50 round boxes of Federal JRN for $19.99. You might even do better online.

Yeh yeah I had a cw45. It was a great gun. My brother owns it now and carries it everywhere.
The price of 45 is close the the price of .38. If I got the pm45 I'd like to start reloading in 45.
