CW380 coming Thursday. I have readsome mixed reviews.
Came across this thread: http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?1521-Proper-prep-of-a-new-kahr
Is there anything else I should do, read, buy, consider? Should I have any concerns over reliability?
Wanting to make sure I do my part correctly.
Thanks-
James
Many owners of these micro 380's find it helpful to add some sort of grip improvement device to their grip. Some like sleeves like the ones sold by Hogue or Pachmayr. Some cut a piece of a bicycle innertube and slip it on their grip.
My preferred grip enhancement is a Talon grip. It's the most expensive ($18 shipped TYD), but it fits the best, and works the best - for me. These little guns need a firm grip to operate reliably, so anything you can do to help with this is good.
Sounds like you're giving your new CW380 the best chance of success. I'd suggest also using domestic made ammo.
Good luck, and enjoy!

thanks, I tried finding a local range to rent one before I buy, but there are non local which have the CW380 as a rental. The best I could do is handle it. The slide springs are stiff, but with proper technique and keeping the pistol close to the body it's not bad. I would imagine it would loosen up after a hundred or two rounds. I see the Winchester white box on sale 200 round.boxes. is this sufficient for starting the break in? I am not sure if they are round nose or flat. Hoping roumd.
Winchester white box was one of my choices I used to break in my CW380. My ammo was flat nosed, and my CW380 ate it up flawlessly. Dirty stuff though.
My break-in ammo was 50 WWB, and 50 Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics JHP. That particular Fiocchi was from Cabela's, and came in a blue box. It uses a close copy of the Hornady XTP bullet. Pretty stout load too. No issues in my CW380 at all.
Next 100 rounds were 50 Blazer Brass and another 50 Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics JHP. I split my break in into 2 sessions, and took it home and cleaned and re-lubed in between. These little 380's get dirty quickly, and mine looked to be running dry as well. They like to be well lubed , too.
I'd suggest using WWB, Blazer Brass, Federal Champion (brass case) or American Eagle, and Remington UMC as your break in ammo. All USA made stuff. This should give the best chance of success, and follows what Kahr recommends in using quality American made ammo. Skip the expensive self defense rounds until after the break in. Clean and relube after 100 rounds as well.
I'd avoid Perfecta like the plague, as well as Maxxtech and Fiocchi in the red box - known offenders in Kahr 380's. The case rim on those doesn't fit well under the extractor claw of some Kahr 380's and causes problems. There's 2 different fixes here in this forum to correct this, but I'd hold off on that until later, or just avoid that cheap stuff entirely.

I too read the posts about issues, but never had any. Sure it takes a break in period. Couple of recommendations...
1. take apart and clean it ...theres a sticky on this site about cleaning
2. brass ammo
3. use the slide release to chamber a round.
4. make sure you dont limp wrist the gun. Have a firm grip on it.
5. dont ride the slide
You may think the slide doesnt lock back, but your thumb is hitting the slide stop keeping it from locking back. My gun was fine, and accurate. takes a little getting use to the revolver like trigger. Practice dry firing to get a feel for it. easy smooth pull until you get use to it.
You might want to get some Talon grips or put a Hogue grip on it. The stippling is pretty aggressive.
Enjoy!
I had a new CM9, ran 3 different types of ammo through it with no problems. I now have 300 rounds through the gun and its seems a little smoother.
