CM-9 looking to replace the front sight with a night sight. Never installed one myself, but since there are only 2 holes in the CM9 seems simple enough to install on my own.
My question is, do I need to worry about the height of the sight, are they manufactured to fit with the factory rear sight? or should I replace both front and rear sights? I dont really want/need to replace the rear, but if thats required then so be it.

Some just replace the front sight with the Trijicon night sight. The CM9 is also sold this way by Kahr. No issues that I've heard of.

Maybe this will help...

I went this route without a problem;not satisfied with either set up though, and had my LGS dovetail the front and installed grn./yel. TFOs. now I can see the sights any time, day/night on my CM9 EDC/COMP. best purchase made in a long time.

approximate cost to dovetail a slide? not sure Id want to go that route, since the CM9 is what it is, but if cost is reasonable I may consider. Thanks

Haven't done a lot of research on this, but from what I've found, this is about average...

http://eastonfirearmsrefinishing.com/Services/Sights.php

As much as I like Truglo sights, I'll just make do with the Trijicon set from Kahr. Doesn't make sense to me to spend another $220+ on a $320 pistol, but if it makes you happy.....

I was just curious, I have never had the need to have a slide milled, thus the question on cost.
If this was really a concern or deal breaker, I would have bought the PM9. Thanks for the post

robistro, the dovetail/sight inst. cost me $75; counting the cost of the CM9 new, + cost of the dovetail, it was still cheaper then a new PM9, which would have needed the TFOs anyway.

When I had my CM9, I used that Trijicon front sight Kahr offers with the OEM rear sight and found that combo shot to the same POA/POI as the complete set of OEM sights.

Also:

Seeing as how there are variances in how slides are countersunk for the front sight posts on "C" (and "E") series guns, I thought I'd put up some diagrams in regards to what I've found is involved with "fitting" the Trijicon front night sight. YMMV.
First, do a dry run installation.
Check that the sight will fit flush on the slide. Then check the posts for correct clearance on the inside of the slide. Finally, install the screw and check that it holds the sight flush to the slide and fits correctly into the countersink.

http://i51.tinypic.com/o1wqs.jpg
*note - in the diagrams, fit of the sight posts in their holes and screw head in the countersink are exaggerated to show the parts clearly. The posts fit closely in real life and the screw head will be in contact with the sides/bottom of the countersink.

Once satisfied that the fit is correct, install using an adequate amount of red Loctite.

Post #27 contains instruction for removing the factory front sight and installing the Trijicon sight (some mention in post #1 as well).

Greg

Front sight installation:

Dawson Precision: Dawson Precision now offers front sights for Kahr CW series pistols: www.dawsonprecision.com SIGHTS FRONT:Kahr Front Sights Category (http://www.dawsonprecision.com/CategoryProductList.jsp?cat=SIGHTS+FRONT:Kahr+Fron t+Sights).

Trijicon: Try contacting a Kahr Sales representative about purchasing just the front Trijicon sight.
To install the Trijicon front night sight, you'll first need to remove the OEM sight. It's held on by two plastic posts that have their ends melted to act as rivet heads:
http://i51.tinypic.com/xp7rsi.jpg
Tape around the sight to protect the slides finish, then use pliers to break the front sight posts (a slight rocking motion will accomplish this):
http://i54.tinypic.com/wgq6v.jpg
A quick video of how easy the front sight comes off: OEM sight removal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnkR6mHXJC8)

Then use a tool to remove the remainder of the posts from the holes in the slide.

The Trijicon sight is installed with Loctite and a small screw that goes into the rear post:
http://i44.tinypic.com/21b9ppg.jpg
Installation went smoothly on my CW45:
http://i50.tinypic.com/iviro0.jpg
However, I did have issue with the sight screw on the CW9 preventing the gun from going into battery (this has been reported by others as well); well actually, it was bad enough to preclude assembly of the pistol. I was able to work around it by cleaning up and enlarging the countersink done by Kahr on the front sight post hole (see post #63 for further instruction in regards to fitting the front sight):
http://i53.tinypic.com/2num63t.jpg
http://i51.tinypic.com/24x2l35.jpg
Note: Some members have posted photos of newer CW9 and CM9 pistols that show Kahr has increased the depth of the countersink on these pistols.

Edit- I forgot to add, some shananigans seem to be going on with Kahrs web site. I couldnt find the front sight only by searching through the main web page. I did a Google search for Kahr Front Sight and followed a link which then took me to a page on Kahrs web site where I could order the front sight only for the CM9.
I did check to make sure it wasnt a phishing site, everything seemed legit, so I ordered the front sight. Strange..Maybe Kahr has a limited supply and is releasing for sale in short time periods.

Greg - That's one HECK of a fine description w/photos of the process of changing out the front sight on a CM9.

I did this install 2 days ago on my CM9, and the whole process for the front sight swap took all of 5 minutes. The rear sight was also easy - about as dificult as a Glock sight swap (as easy as it gets).

In hindsight (no pun intended), I would have been just as happy with the stock rear sight combined with the front night sight.

FYI - Kahr currently has the Night Sights in stock for the CT, CM series but are not shipping them due to not having received the little tubes of Loctite. I ordered my sights last Saturday and they put the funds on hold in my bank account and they sent me an email stating the sights are backordered until 4-20. So I called and asked and thats when they told me they have the sights but are not shipping. So of course I asked if they could ship without the LocTite and the lady said yes. So I asked if in the realm of possibility the sight fell off because of them not sending the LocTite (which can be purchased most hardware stores and I would buy it there), am I covered by the warranty? She could not find an answer. So my next question was are they going to keep the funds on hold until they get the LocTite in to ship the sights and is there a possibility that they could be ready to ship on 4-20? No definitive answer there either. I would have been better off not calling and being told "we have the sights, but are not shipping due to LocTite". Placing a hold on the funds is what irks me.....They have a card number, why can't they just charge it when ready to ship? No answer there either. Oh well, looks like Dawson Precision now has a shot at my business.

Thanks for the heads up wrfabus...I just checked my account and says funds are 'pending'. Now I have an idea as to why the web site was a little fishy. Ill be calling tomorrow and most likely cancelling my order. I did not receive an email and would have never known unless I check on my account later in the week.

Cant understand why Kahr would not have tubes of Loctite? wth? thats seems like a rookie error by someone ordering parts.
Like I said, I'll call them tomorrow and likely cancel the order. Bad way to do business, hold customers money but not notify everyone about whats going on.

Thanks again for the heads up I otherwise would have never known. This ticks me off. Not something I need urgent its just the principle of business and customer service.

Obviously, Kahr doesn't have their act together at this time.

When I did the intall on my CM9 night sights the other day, I opened the ziploc bag that contained several smaller bags with each part in it's own bag, a bag with a small tube of red loctite, and the instruction sheet. Awful instruction sheet BTW.

Laying the small bags out, I had one with the loctite, one with the rear sight, one with the tiny screw for the new front sight, and TWO bags with a front sight. One of the bags with a front sight in it had been inside the folded up instruction sheet. Better too many parts than too few, I guess....

So the newest iteration on this subject...I told them to send me the sights without LocTite...they shipped super fast, like 2 days. I got a Meprolight Rear Night Sight and a Trijicon Front Night Sight ...Wonder if the heights correlate to where they should hit? But of course the invoice says Trijicon Night Sights? Now What to do??????

Good idea. Though I am going to call on Monday and see if they will exchange the Meprolight rear for a Trijicon rear to go with the Trijicon front sight. I did order the Trijicon set, and suspect, as they were packaged the same as EdM said in 3 separate little bags, that they made a mistake in picking the order. It is unusual to receive 2 different manufacturers night sights as a set I would hope.

in my experience whenever I've replaced a set of sights with another matched set, not a mixed set,the POA/POI were very very close.
sometimes you can get away w/mixed sets if you know/match the heights of the f&r sights.

I spoke to Kahr Customer Service and they were apologetic about the mixup. They emailed me a return USPS label in minutes for the Meprolight rear and said they are mailing me the correct Trijicon rear sight out today. I will be happy as long as all comes to fruition. At first they wanted me to send the whole package back.....I said no way.....I have a correct front sight in my possession and will not give it up. Even though I explained what model I had, a CT45, the rep thought I got a set of Old Style (pre 2004) sights. I explained I have the correct front that is not a dovetail sight but incorrect rear for the set. We'll see.

Sounds like they dont even know what they sent to you did you send in photos? And why would they ask that you send back the correct part?

On a side note, Im starting to have mixed feelings on the customer service department. I have the Cerakote coated model, and I noticed that the guide rod had a small area that had not been coated. I sent a photo to customer service and the 1st reply I received said that the guide rod "looked fine and was suppose to look like that" I replied with something along the lines of no its not suppose to look like that and that I wanted someone to contact to escalate my issue. I then received another reply stating that they would send me out another guide rod.
The place seems to be in dire need of some organization and knowledgeable employees.
