I just received a letter today from NRA stating that I had been nominated for membership in the Golden Eagles (at an annual dues of $200 of course).
Is this really something to feel priviledged to receive, and I have no idea what would have instigated this because I don't even donate to each and every one of NRA's money drives, or is it just another way of receiving more money each year?
How many on the Forum here received a letter like this, or to put it another way, has anyone not received one?

I don't know the facts regarding the Golden Eagles, and although I am a life member of the NRA, I have not received a letter like that.

For some reason, though, it suddenly put me in mind of a scene with young George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life"...

Hard to know just what an exclusive offer your invitation may (or may not) be.

I got a letter like that last year. I think it's just a way of raising more cash. If you want to give more, send it to NRA-ILA instead, that's what I do.

I got the same letter, never heard of Golden Eagles. But the certificate looks cool, I might frame it and put it up in my office to make me look important.

The more you donate, the more they want.

I just made the last payment on my NRA Life Membership yesterday. I get at least a hundred emails a day wanting me to fill out some "survey" which always ends with a suggested contribution list and a credit card form.

I get hard copies in the mail, too.

I did break down this year... or this election, rather, and donate some money, but it's the same old story, they take that donation and hire more firms to solicit more money from you. At least that's creating jobs! :D

You'all are really cool. Thanks for all the responses. I like the idea of framing it and may hang it in the family room for everyone to see how important I am. I donated to the Heart fund drive once because my FIL had heart problems and within a month I started receiving requests for money from all over the country. Some Funds I had never heard of. Cured me of making donations, unfortunately cause I know there has to be good charities out there someplace that use all the money for the cause instead of the majority going to "administrative" expenses.

Yeah, get a nice frame, maybe some of them accent lights to set it off. Folks will look at you with a whole new set of bifocals.
It's surprising how many charitable organizations sound so good but have CEO's making 10 times more a year than me.

Really need to research. I still think the NRA is a good thing but I don't send them no money and consequently I don't get much mail or emails from them anymore.

Don't forget the two largest scams of all, Religion, Tithe 10% of your income and the Lottery, 1 in 272 million chance to win.

But the lottery doesn't solicit money from anyone.

If a private organization wanted to sell raffle tickets for their club with odds of 1 in 272 million to win, the Government would arrest them for scamming. But when the Government does the same thing, all is well and good, go figure. You are right though, no one is forced to buy a lotto ticket. We all think someday that 1 winner in 272 million will be us.
