View Full Version : Sharp front grip checkering?

OK, maybe not sharp per say but is anyone else bothered by the checking on the front strap of their CW45?

I am a new oner as of yesterday. I shoot this gun beautifully and really like it so far. If it tests out OK I plan to have it be my PCW.

While I am at it it seems to shoot about 3" low at about any distance. Does anyone know how to raise the rear sight or the dimensions of the dovetails -is there a higher replacement available?

BTW, first post as a newbie here. I am one of the founding members of IowaCarry.org who helped to recently bring "shall issue" to Iowa. I did a search on the grip and didnt find a lot?

To me all the front straps are too sharp. I fondled my PM45 so much that when I got it to the range my hand hurt so bad I thought I might cry. But I manned up put an innertube on the grip and did it anyhow.
I'd do the ole innertube on the grip trick or get some What A Grip someone here who I sadly can't recall recommended. It provides a very good grip but does away with the sharp.
I filed and sanded a bit on mine then put the tube on thinking I would come back and finish sanding and not have the tube, but I liked the tube so well I never took it off. I'm not nuts about the look of a tube on the grip but it's hard to improve tupperware anyhow. As high a priority as looking cool is for me, you just can't always make it happen.
Welcome by the by. Fine group of folks here and I think you'll like it here. I know I do, can't explain why for sure but I'm a KT addict.

I put a Hogue Hand all Jr. on mine for that very reason.

Nope, I like the grips on my CW45 just the way they are.

Hi Dean, OldLincoln here. Great forum as you've discovered. I like it because I don't feel so old around these nuts. You said you are replacing a Colt New Agent for carry. How was your experience with the Colt? My alternate carry is a Colt LW Commander 45 but I've been curious.

Hi, OldLincoln. I think this post ended up in the wrong thread, but I just happened to run across it while reading about the sharp front grip checkering on the Kahrs.

The New Agent is a really awesome gun and it ran flawlessly. I had it in a Bianchi CarryLok holster, which I just discovered can't be had with the P45 I'm ordering (I called Bianchi directly about it). The NA is light and slip, but the P45 has it beat on the scales and has the benefit of real sights instead of a "trough". In the end, I just didn't love the NA enough to keep it so I sold it off to fund other purchases. I would prefer your LW Commander over the New Agent.

I looked at the PM45 for grip size, but I wish I could get its grip with the longer barrel of the P45.

Try two or three laps around the grip with about 8 cents worth of black athletic tape at the range. Takes 5 seconds to "install".

My PM9 and PM45 are both outfitted with a Hogue Handall Jr. I'd recommend them to anyone. If cost is an issue, the bike tube works just fine.

bicycle inner tube on my CW9 and CW45 and a Hogue on the PM9. No preferences between them. They both work just fine.

Anyone try that Hogue Handall Jr. on a P380?

The "Brooks A-Grip" is the best kept secret in polymer handguns. It is soft against the skin, but when you grip it, the gun sticks to your hand and WILL NOT move. It works wet, with oil, sweat or blood. It is easy to install, it can be taken off, then reinstalled - these things are amazing! The only down side is some people don't like the looks.

The thing I dislike about the rubber slip on grips or inner-tubes, is they catch on cover garments and don't work well when wet or oily.

Wouldn't a light sanding on the sharp nubs be effective?

That would work just fine. Just flatten out the points on the high spots. I started to do that on my PM45 then threw a tube on it to go to the range the first time. Meant to take it back off and finish but it worked so nice with the tube I put a Hogue Handall Jr on it and called it good.
I may still go back and do it as it would reduce bulk just a bit but I'm not sure it would ever feel as good as a rubber wrap.

anyone know of a handall type grip that would fit a P380? I have a Handall Jr. on my PM9 and had one on my PM45, but I think it'd be too big to work on a P380.

I also think it would be too big but I got no concrete evidence to back that up. I'm wondering if the Get A Grip that someone here recommended would fit. I keep meaning to get some to try and keep forgetting when I'm near the sporting goods stores.
I'm sure if nothing else worked a small innertube would work. I think my 1" wheelchair tubes would be to small.
Maybe the sports tape or the Brooks A grips would be the better choice.

I have them on both my PM9 and P45, they are the shizzle!
