Have any of you used Grip screws that are not the normal Kahr screws? If so, where did you buy them and can you post a picture of them on the gun?

1911 grips screws work. I had some of "regular' length on hand and found I needed to trim them down a bit for use with the nylon grips. Folks report that the 'thin grip" 1911 screws work just fine "as is" for this application.
I don't know firsthand if the above applies to the wood grips (without doing any modifications (http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?5015-MK9-wood-grips-installation-Screws)), but I think it worth looking into (http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?11474-MK-grip-screws/page2).
Here's my MK9 with 1911 screws installed:

Regular length 1911 grip screws work fine IF you use 0-rings on them.
You need to do this anyway to keep the head of the screw near the surface of the grip.
If you don't use o-rings, the screw heads seat too far into the grips, and it looks funny.
The screws also protrude into the magwell, and a mag won't go past them.
FWIW, Home Depot sells a small o-ring assortment in the plumbing section that works well for this....
I'll post pics of the new screws installed in my MK tomorrow when I get home. I got them on Amazon pretty cheap, compared to the custom engraved ones I really wanted. Those were over $50 per set...

I use the factory screws or short 1911 screws. I slim the wood down so the wood is flush to the screw head.
Makes a slimmer grip closer in width to the rubber or nylon grips.
I prefer slim on my 1911's too.
Unmodified 1911 grip screws. Just added an o-ring under the head of each screw.....

I had it on my belt today and it felt great. I will probably get one for my Shield next.

I regret buying the Mitch Rosen OWB on the belt economy holster for my MK9. I prefer having the slide protected to avoid sweat salts from damaging the slide. I have one new in the box if anyone's interested in buying it off of me. Ill sell it at the cost I paid and I'll pay shipping. Send me a PM $55.13.
Thanks

Hey guys, This is sort of a carry over from my initial thread in the new member area. Thanks to the help of other forum members I got the new grip screws installed and uploaded the photos to google photos. Link provided below. What do ya think?

So did you use regular or slim 1911 grip screws, and did you need O-rings? Looks great,BTW.

I got regular 1911 screws and didn't need o-rings.

Hey myers, yes mine needed o rings, otherwise the screws extend into the mag well preventing insertion of the magazine. :)

Hmm. I just installed regular 1911 grip screws with O-rings and they interfered with the magazine. I have to trim them a bit, I think.

Most of the 1911 grip screws I've found are pretty thin. My MK needed fatter ones.
This kit from Harbor Freight has LOTS of sizes - including the ones that worked best on my MK9. Having spares is nice, and keeping them organized is a plus...

There's also the option of using more than one on each screw - it works fine.

So. What size ended up working best if I might ask?

#006. 1/8" ID, 1/4" OD, 1/16" thick.
You get 30 of them in that HF kit. Of course, that's what worked with my particular screws and grips - YMMV....

I've got the Lakeline G10 grips on mine, and the 1911 "slim" screws work great and look awesome.
Then I read this thread and started to rethink the wooden grips I had bought, installed, and then took off my MK9.
So, needless to say, I just bought fancy "regular" 1911 screws, and will give them a try when they arrive.
My MK9 has been 100% reliable, shoots great, and is so darn pretty. The only issue has been its marginal carry weight, especially for IWB (which I prefer). But I've recently moved into the 21st century and tried some hybrid holsters, and they seem to distribute the weight a bit better than the Dan Rosen. The holster for my Glock 42 fits the MK9 closely enough for testing purposes, and the MK9 is like a whole different gun on my hip now. Looks like it may end up sharing some EDC carry time with my Kimber Solo and G42.
