View Full Version : New Home Defense Pistol

I decided I needed something more potent than a PM9 for home defense, so I just picked up this new P220 Carry Equinox. The Carry model has a 3.9"barrel rather than a 4.4" barrel, making it also a candidate for...carry. This is one of the rare unicorns still on the California roster that does NOT contain any of the usual California foolishness, such as loaded chamber indicator, magazine disconnect, or the manual of arms printed in white block letters on the slide.

That's a fine looking gun. And everybody loves a unicorn.
And it's so nice to see a post about a 45. Been on a 380 in the pocket binge of late.

Have a classic, folded steel slide, factory two tone (Nickel Plated) P220 45.
It's easily one of my most reliable and accurate handguns.
And I've got some goodies - LOL :p
Enjoy your new Sig :)

I concur, but my last two purchases have been Remington R1 .45s.
Them's purdy grips the OP upgraded to.

Great purchase. As I age, I am slowly eliminating my center fire semi auto's with the exception of my W. German P226, M11A1, and of course my incredibly easy to shoot and accurate PM9 which will never go on the block.
Most all Sigs seem to be top line firearms that are east to shoot accurately, especially for new shooters.

I just bought a Springfield XDS 45, It is small and dependable. I added it to my 9mm collection for my home defense. Love it. Comes with a mail in rebate of 4 free magazines, a holster and a 2 mag carrier if you buy it by the end of June.

I bought the XDS45 several years ago shortly after they hit the market. Two weeks into my perfectly good experience with the XDS the "safety recall" was announced. Since I wasn't carrying it at the time I figured what the heck and sent it in the next morning. Some six weeks later I got my smooth 6.8 lb d/a trigger gun back with the nastiest, grittiest 9+ lb trigger I've every handled. I sold the gun to one of my ffl buds the next week for a whopping $20 "loss". The cash was converted into a new chrony and re-loading supplies. I'm still considering it was a good trade, but I wish I'd never sent my perfectly good XDS back on what I consider to be a bogus safety issue. It was one fine gun out of the box.

The recall was needed to prevent accidental discharges due to the grip safety. They fixed the problem and everything manufactured later was 100% safe. Sorry you had the problem. You should try another one. Buy a new one by June 30 ang get 4 free mags, a holster and mag carrier by mail in rebate. A $180 value. It is a value that will be hard to beat by any other brand.

Hey Barth. I also have a nickel 1995 P220, and as you say, it's an accurate and reliable pistol. However, do you think it's more so than your HK's? My HDW is a USP 40 with excellent night sights and a 14 round mag. It's the only pistol I own that has more than a ten round capacity and it's too large to carry, so it's a natural for the job.

It will match most of my HKs.
But this bad boy I shoot a little better.
Not really fair, as it's got Meprolight adjustable target sights (Dialed in )

Pistol whipping is an underrated art.
I'll go to that first and then transition to edged weapons.
Everything is a tool, even an empty handgun :)

My hands are licensed as deadly weapons and insured with Lloyds of London. Anything happens to my hands, it $2.50 cash money without question.
I gotta read the fine print and see what it says about me sometimes having to run them under warm water in the morning to get them working though.

I studied the female anatomy.
My hot (do anything anywhere) teenage girlfriend used to watch me train in Taekwondo while in high school.
Was on the Varsity Football team briefly too.
But when they demanded my shoulder length blond hair be cut to 3"?
My girlfriend laid down the law.
Her or football - make a choice!
Don't really need to finish this story do I?

^^^ HS football coach saw me freshman year with my long hair and asked me if I smoked. I said; "Put me on the field. I'll smoke everybody". Cocky SOB I was...
