A longtime friend and top of the line shooter once told me he practiced only using a DA revolver on the theory that if one can master that art one would be good with almost any other trigger system. So, over the years I have followed his sage advice and moved into the revolver world while most of my semi's have been sold or moved to the back of the safe.

Although we have the choice as to which gun or caliber to use, I decided to use my PM9 today to qualify for my carry permit renewal. Not a big deal only 25 shots at 30'. Dang people, this is one really nice transition gun. I shot a 249/250 with ease and following the test I ran a couple of mags through rapid fire with great success. I am always astounded what a nice this little peashooter a PM9 really is.

My theory is if one become proficient with a small handgun, one will become even more proficient with a larger one. My EDC is a Kahr of some sort most of the time. It's either my P9, CW380, or my CM9. I shoot one of them at every range session, but always bring more than one pistol, of course.

Practicing with a tiny handgun, as Kahrs are, has made my performance with larger ones much better.

I agree with MMeyers1970. Shooting small handguns translates well when shooting larger guns. I too shoot my smaller carry guns at least once a month. My smaller carry guns include a CM9, a CT380, a Remington RM380 and a Keltec p32.

Interesting topic. Timely, too, since today I shot a brand-new Kel Tec P32, and put some more rounds through my CW380. Both are great shooters for pocket pistols, and with some concentration I put some good groups into the head and center mass of my Bad Guy target from 21'. Since I had some time left, I ended the session with a couple hundred rounds though my Glock 27. No, not an overly large gun, and it does kick pretty good spitting out those 40 cal rounds. But it is literally night and day compared to those tiny pistols....so, so much easier to shoot.

In my humble opinion, everyone should carry the same "style" of gun all the time, and in the same place. Safety , no safety, what ever, keep it the same. Being a former service member, I can tell you drill , drill, drill, muscle memory works.
AND shoot at least 50 rounds per month through their EDC, MINIMUM.

Although I totally agree with you I am guilty of just the opposite. I work as a part time RSO/instructor and I shoot 50-100 rounds with the gun I am carrying before I start work. I switch guns often but 90% of the time I carry a revolver and I only shoot DA so the trigger system is very similar.

Last Sat. I carried my Sig M11A1 and the first shot was DA and dead on target. To keep my followup shots where I wanted them took a lot of concentration because of the short reset trigger on the Sig.

One of the best shooters at our range is a young lady that runs Krav Maga school. About a year ago she sold all her non Glock firearms and committed to just owning a Glock 19, 43, and a 42 which she practices with on a regular basis. She never has to remember which she is carrying and she is deadly with every one of them.

If I had to have only one platform, I think I would be a Glock convert. Simple, easy to shoot, and plenty of parts available.

Agree, 100%. I cut my teeth on DA revolvers, and then carried DA pistols (Glock and Sig, primarily) as my duty carry for over 30 years. There are so many really, really nice SA pistols out on the market today, but I refuse to indulge. If things go bad and adrenaline makes me stupid, the last thing I need to do is remember which pistol is on my side and if I need to worry about a safety or not.

I haven't seen a P-32 on the gun shelves for years....at least NIB anyways.

This will require a brief explanation: I owned a Gen 1 P32, purchased when they first came out in 1999. A reliable little BUG for 18 years, it started exhibiting some hiccups (FTF, FTE) lately. It went back to Kel Tec, came back even worse, and went back to them a second time. This time it came back as a brand-new, all-new Gen 2 (Kel Tec customer service deserves its reputation).

I hadn't realized P32s are so scarce these days...just checked both gunbroker and grabagun, and neither have any NIB. What's up with that?

I ran into a nib tan P32 at the last gun show I went to in April. We were at the range on my nephew's birthday and he really liked it. So obviously it went home with him. I found a lnib 1st gen at a great price. That one is now mine.

Actually, going back a few years, I saw Kel Tec stuff everywhere, but not now. I hardly see any of their products on the shelves in my area of Indiana. Too bad too.
