Using a 50AE Desert Eagle no less.

(CNN) A Minnesota woman killed her boyfriend Monday by shooting at a book he was holding over his chest, in a YouTube video stunt gone wrong. Monalisa Perez,19, was attempting to make a viral video with boyfriend Pedro Ruiz III, 22, to post to their YouTube account, according to a Norman County Sheriff's Department arrest report.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the book they used was "On the Origin of Species"?

Hopefully common sense will prevail although it certainly hasn't so far and there won't be any charges or fines. Sounds like it was a mutual idea and mostly the victims fault, although neither party apparently had a lick of sense.

Very sad deal for everybody and there will be plenty of scars and reminders without jail time and fines she undoubtedly can't afford.

Who was operating the video camera?

I thought I understood that they were set up or mounted in a couple different spots. If somebody was holding them, then that muddies the waters considerable too.
Thanks to lawyers, this will most likely be a huge can of worms anyhow.

I'll go along with that. To my mind, assuming the veracity of the news report, it was entirely the victim's fault as he had to "demo" convince her it would be safe before she'd participate. I'm betting..1) she ain't a gun person and 2) he didn't use the Double Eagle when he shot that other book he showed her.

he might have used a book with 500 pages to demo it then used a book with 250 pages for the actual event. Or..... a hardback for the demo and a paperback for the event. book is a book. I wouldn't think that either case would make much dif to a DE .50 cal

Agreed. Very sad. Is stupid a viable defense?

If stupid were a viable defense very few people would ever be found guilty.
