I had a great day shooting trap and 5stand on Sunday. 4 rounds of trap all in the 20s and 2 rounds of 5stand 17/25 each. I'm still pretty new to the 5stand and this course is really hard so I'm very happy with those 17s.

I know this is a handgun forum but I was wondering if there are any other shotgunners out there. What and where do you shoot?

I've tried quite a few shotguns but landed on this one a year or so ago. I'm finally getting the hang of it: Beretta Silver Pigeon I Sporting. 30 inch barrels. Briley extended chokes.

I used to be an avid shotgunner and loved 5 stand. Your right it's tough. First time I shot it I think I got 4 and my buddy got 3 and everybody in the club house wanted to know how we did it.
Before we were done, couple 3 years later, we were getting 18 to 20 pretty consistently. My buddy got 24 once, my best I think was 23. Miss it.

I still have my trusty Valmet over / under, haven't even held it in years.

They closed down our range that we frequented nearly every weekend, sometimes both days. No place convenient now.

If there was I'd be back into that pretty durn quick. Great fun.

Due to too many hobbies, my Citori has resided in my safe for the last 25 years.

Funny this thread pops up, just getting back into shotgun shooting after 8 years or so. I have a Browning Cynergy 12 gauge and a Browning Sweet sixteen which belonged to my dad. I reload for both. Our club, Vandenberg Rod & Gun, has two trap and skeet fields. We shoot five stand and sporting clays once a month. If anyone is in the area and would like to stop by, shoot me a email!

I shoot more birds than I do clays to be honest. Just a trusty old Rem 700. Though I do have a few other shotguns in the safe that come out now and then. I always make sure I use an older Stevens side by side at least once a year on a hunt. Funny thing about that Stevens is it gets heavier every year!

^^^ That's cool. Glad you are back into it. I belong to a club with a whole slew of trap fields. On Sundays they get together to play "games". Everyone puts in a couple of bucks and lines up behind the trap house. The first guy or gal shoots and the next three get to shoot his misses or chips. If someone gets your miss or chip you get a strike. Two strikes and you are out. Last man gets the pot. It's good fun. I've seen as many as 40 shooters lined up.

More often though I go to a public range that also has 5 stand and skeet.

I too love shotguns. If you have never hunter flushing ground birds like guail, grouse, or pheasants behind a couple well trained, pointing bird dogs then your life is not complete.

Next to mine, that's about the saddest piggy bank I ever laid eyes on. Mind is just a mass of glue, duct tape, and ford wire. Looks more like modern art than a piggy bank anymore. Been busted too many times.

I don't know if this counts but when I was stationed in Montana I used to hunt Grouse with a borrowed shot gun.

The prisoner and I shoot hand launched clays in a gravel pit these days…….It's fun and good hand eye coordination practice.

I used to shoot shotguns, Remington 1100's. I have a Nice pair in a "B" grade Trap (30in full) and a "B" grade Skeet (26in fixed skeet). Sure do love those old guns and I have too many thousands of rounds thru them to count.
I'm just too gimped to do it anymore, but I have shotguns and 5K in shells for the zombie a-pack-o-lips... or the democratic take over... whatever comes first.

Wait?!?! Those are both kind of the same thing...Right?

Mossberg 500 bought from K-Mart @ $149 when they stopped selling guns and dumped inventory.
18" barrel with a pistol grip (tosses the plastic stock - LOL).
It's my slug gun.
Always wanted a double barreled coach gun, but never scratched that itch.
There's just something about a sawed off shotgun that appeals to me too.
So when Mossberg released the new PGO 14" barreled Shockwave 590 - I just had to have it.
XS Big Dot front sight, GG&G mount/Inforce WML Gen 2 Tactical Light and Mesa Tactical side saddle.
Loaded with Federal Tactical 00 Buck with Flite Control - it's my Doorbell from Hell :)

I have a couple Mossberg 500's, held one of them Shockwaves last week, didn't bring it home but I liked it.

I got a Stoeger side by side coach gun, nickel plated and had a black painted stock????? After discovering the stock was actually painted wood, I took off all the black paint and stained it properly. It had a pistol grip style stock, I filed that all off and made it English. I like the looks much better.

The pistol grip might have been slightly more efficient. It's definitely a learning curve getting accustomed to 2 separate triggers.

Forty some years ago. I had a nickel plated twice barreled double shoot gun with a painted black stock and gold plated hammers.. I had just got on the Highway Patrol.. A car came through the radar at about 90. He really took off when I came after him.

I radioed in the license number and promptly got out of radio range.. After going through two small towns in excess of 100 mph they ran out of gas. Four of them came out of the car like a flock of quail. I had that double barrel out right quick.

They froze when they saw that. I put them face down in the muddy borrow pit and tried to figure out what to do next.

As it happened a part time Deputy in one of the towns we went through jumped in his pickup and came out to see what was going on. He stepped out of his pickup with a tommygun with a 50 round drum. We had them surrounded then.

We handcuffed them and put them in the back of his pickup and headed for town. When I got back in radio range I found out that dispatch had been frantically trying to inform me they were 4 escaped prisoners from a Missouri prison and had killed a guard and stolen the the car. They had backup racing towards me, but I was 45 minutes from the nearest one other than the Deputy who didn't even have a radio.

That double barreled shotgun was one thing those old boy understood.. They didn't even twitch lying in at that muddy ditch. They rode the 50 miles back to town and jail in the back of that pickup. I didn't want them muddy boogers in my nice new patrol car.

I traded that gun off when the Patrol issued Remington 870s a year later.

I have a number of 12 ga. shotguns, the one I love the most is a Beretta. When I went looking for home defense, I studied the ballistics for weeks. I ended up with a Mossberg 500 20 guage Flex 18" barrel. I have the pistol grip, and the tactical grip I added a forearm grip, later and it really helps with control. I enjoy training with the 20 gauge, Very mild recoil for a shotgun, you can shoot a lot of ammo through it in every session. It maneuvers great. I alos added a tactical light and mounted the switch on the Fore arm grip, very easy on and off access.
I also purchased a hunting stock and a "Slug" barrel. I am really happy in my decision to go with the 20 gauge.

^^^^ KR,

Agreed. I think 20ga makes a great home defense gun. Mrs. b4 can shoot it much better than a 12. Nice Mossy.

Just picked up an inexpensive Tristar 16 gauge hunter ex for $500.00 at our dealer.

6 pounds and shoots about 60/40. Comes with 5 chokes, really nice little gun.

^^^ I've seen a couple of those Tristars at the range. Good field gun IMHO. They pointed well, shot well... But not really robust enough for much clays shooting. You know, 200-300-400... rounds at a time. But let me know how it works for you. People are all the time asking me to recommend a reasonably priced O/U. I'd appreciate your feedback/experiences.

I shot a round of 5 stand with an SKB/Weatherby 20ga O/U a few months ago. It was down in Fla and it was hot and sunny. Shot a good-for-me round in only a t-shirt. 18/25 including report and true pairs. I gotta admit that's one sweet, soft shooter. No purple shoulder.

My only these days shotguns are two worked ov er a bit/refinished Rem 870's with Vang Comp barrels and a short as be legal form cyl bore Coach gun. All are 12ga offense/defense weapons. Shoot them enough to stay satisfied current and sometimes when I'm just in a mood to really down range create a considerable mess.

I almost wore out a Browning Lightning Sporting Clays shotgun. Shot sporting clays for about 12 years . Now just a casual shotgunner. I sold the sporting clays gun to finance a 1958 Browning Superposed 12 ga. 28 in. Improved and Modified barrels in excellent condition complete with the original hard case also in like new condition. Second shotgun is a Winchester 101 in 12 ga. The finish is mostly gone but the gun is tight as a drum. Very underrated shotgun. Lastly I own a Remington Versa Max tactical, which I use shooting 3 gun . Very reliable shotgun. Almost forgot an old 70s Remington 1100 in 26" plain barrel no rib. An oldie but goodie.

^^^ Sig P210 in your signature? That’s a thread topic right there. I’ve always wanted to shoot one of those.

Good batch of shotguns you tell about too. I shot a W101 not long ago. It was a rough example but still shot well. Brownings just don’t fit me well. It’s a shame. They can be beautiful. I’m OK with Berettas tho. :D

I have a Valmet O/U that I like real well. Shot a ton of what we called Duck tower which I think is the same as what others call 5 stand. Lots of trap for several years. Range closed and kind of drifted.
Father in Law promised me his Win 101 for many years. I offered to buy it numerous times and he said he'd give it to me when it was time.

I finally asked him very late in his life and he'd sold it to somebody that wanted it bad. I told him that was me.

He and some of his friend bought 7 of them all at the same time, I forget how much but it was dirt cheap by todays standards. It was absolutely mint like most everything else he owned. Wish I could have got it.

Nothing spectacular - Remington 870 Police Magnum
Surefire fore end
Magpul sling (not in picture)

Pretty basic but for some 20+ years, its done everything I've asked of it and not failed.

Thanks. I'm just the opposite I've tried Berettas but they just don't fit me. Every Browning I've tried feels right. The Win. 101 also is a good fit for me. I'm sorry to say that I sold the P210-6 . I realized I just couldn't see those small sights. Now if I could snag one of the target models with better sights....

I have my dads Browning Sweet Sixteen that I don't shoot that often (reason for purchasing the Tristar) and my Browning Cynergy 12 gauge as my regular shooter. Shotgun is, hands down, my favorite. Shooting at a moving target beats fixed target every day of the week.

I have a number of shotguns, but my favorite field gun is the Beretta 1200. Minimal components, easy take down and soft shooter. My most recent purchase a few years ago is the Mossberg Flex.
For home defense it is great. I bought it in 20ga, 18" barrel. I like the Ballistics. I have the Pistol grip, the tactical grip and the hunting grip. Also bought a slug barrel.
I like the 20 ga, I can shoot a heck of a lot of rounds without taking a pounding. Shoots great with just the Pistol grip.Easy to maneuver fast to action. I attached a flashlight which is set at the front fore stock that I had placed on it. Had my Smith install a enhanced safety and slide release.
