New P45 first tear down, cleaning, and lubrication... (pic heavy)

Ok...here is my experience as a New Kahr owner. I say new but the manufactured date was 2012 (guess thats why I got a great deal on it) Also I noticed what could be a good bit of carbon build up (If it is Carbon Build up..i do not think that is normal from a "new" gun. How many rounds do they put through it at Kahr? Or did I buy a returned gun? Or did they have fun with it after assembly.

On the polymer lower...the finish is a little rough. Any and all comments appreciated.

Ok...so after researching a good bit about cleaning this gun before you break it in and following some of the sticky posts on what to do with a new KAHR, she is ready to go to the range (near future)

Heres how it went

1- The slide breaks down a little different than all other pistols I own. I kinda felt a little uncoordinated trying to push the pin in while holding the two markers together but I am sure that will become easier over time.

2- Upon closer inspection this thing is a little rough around the edges. Definitely not cleaned (well if at all) at the factory.

3- I'm positive this would have functioned perfectly even with the crud and carbon build up......wait..is that carbon build up...should there be this much carbon build up from the factory? How many rounds do they put down range with each pistol?

So I gave her a good cleaning...got the carbon off all of the metal pieces but I didn't want to get to rough on the carbon on the polymer.
Oiled all the necessary parts and also followed the suggestions in the FAQ section about what you do to a new Kahr before you go shoot.

I don't think what you saw was actually carbon but probably petrified whatever lubricant they use when they leave the factory.
If you bought it "New" but it's 2012 manufacture, it's been sitting on a shelf someplace for a very long time.
This is also one reason most new guns are swimming in oil when they are opened up for the first time. They never know how long it will be before they find their rightful home.

It looks like it cleaned up nicely from what I can see and I agree it probably would have run fine, but should run even better after your cleaning and lubing.

Ahhh...I guess it could be dried up lubricant or oil. There was a good bit of polymer flashing and litte bits on the slide. On the inside of the poly lower is where I thought I saw carbon and on the feed ramp. I mildy scrubbed it earlier (came off the feed ramp) but none of it came off inside of the poly lower. I'll try again with a little elbow grease and see what happens.
