Hay Guys, Need your help, I am going to ship my CW9 back to KAHR for service. But have a question, if I ship it back UPS do I have to declare it as a firearm, and put insurance on it? Anyone have any advice? Not real comfortable about shipping it, nervous something will happen. I live in Texas if that makes difference. Thanks in advance for your help; I knew I would find the answers here.

If it's for warranty work, call them and tell them you want them to pick it up (on their dime).

500KV is right, that's the first and best option.
If you ship it yourself UPS requires overnight shipping and I would insure it. I would not tell them its a gun unless they ask. I would package it very generic so nothing indicates it's a gun on the outside.
Kahr I think (Wynn would know for sure) uses Fed Ex which has similar requirements. You can use Parcel Post long as it's going to a manufacturer or a business that repairs or customizes guns.
If only your slide needs something, sights, or whatever. Anything goes. It's not considered a gun any longer and any delivery system will work.

^ that.
If they won't, you're going to have to ship it overnight air. or Kahr charges you $30.00

I'm having it worked on so the mags will drop freely. I e-mailed Kahr and asked if I could ship just the frame and got this reply: "We test fire all firearms that we perform work on. So we would require the full pistol." Told me I would have to pay to ship it to them and they would do the work and ship it back on their dime. Forgot to ask, can they ship it back directly to me since I am the owner? Stay safe and keep your muzzle down range.

They can ship directly back to you after they work on it. It will no doubt be Fed Ex and will require a signature on your end to receive it. Stay home and clean your guns that day.
They don't always let you know when it's coming either, could be a surprise. Wynn is the expert on this stuff. I think he's considering a courier service direct from his house to Kahr. Perpetual round trip.

I wonder if you can put the slide and barrel in one box and the frame in another one and mail it? Best bet is to let Kahr send an overnight prepaid FedEx bill....

Good thought but the frame itself is considered a firearm. It has the serial number on it. The slide and barrel by itself is not an issue. Darned if I can figure out how they come up with this stuff. You need both halves to make a whole but not the way they think.
If you got one of them mailbox places close by it's no big deal to Fed Ex or UPS it. I think you can even download a Fed EX pickup tag and never leave the farm but don't quote me on this. Where the heck is Wynn. He's been here and done this alot. More than he deserves actually.

Hey! My wife got back from Colorado last night and we went to the beach. The tide (low) and weather were just right. It's best to visit around low tide and stay out of the water with your vehicle.
My P380 has been back twice... the last time piggybacked with my PM45 on its THIRD trip... and it's there now with the failing magazines problem for a FOURTH time... all on their dime. I haven't shipped a gun by UPS, but here's their info:
UPS: Shipping Firearms (http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/guidelines/firearms.html?srch_pos=1&srch_phr=small+arms+ammunition&WT.svl=SRCH)
Note that you can only ship through Customer Service Centers, no UPS Stores and such.
I've always used FedEx and have ordered pickups myself using Kahr's account# when authorized. If you're having warranty work done to make your pistol work properly and safely for CCW... life or death dependability, Kahr should pay for the shipping. You may have to insist since it's warranty work on a new gun, but be polite.
I use the Internet to pay for UPS shipments (non-gun) and print the labels out after paying with a credit card.
You have to deliver firearm shipments to a FedEX manned facility or schedule pickup. Info:
Firearms
A. FedEx Express will transport and deliver firearms as defined by the United States Gun
Control Act of 1968, between areas served in the U.S., but only between:
1. Licensed importers; licensed manufacturers; licensed dealers; licensed collectors;
law enforcement agencies of the U.S. or any department or agency thereof; and
law enforcement agencies of any state or any department, agency or political
subdivisions thereof; or
2. Where not prohibited by local, state and federal law, from individuals to licensed
importers, licensed manufacturers or licensed dealers (and return of same).
B. If your shipment contains firearms, select the Direct Signature Required or Adult
Signature Required Delivery Signature Option, depending on the requirements of your
shipment. See the Delivery Signature Options section for details. Firearms shipments
are not eligible for signature release or indirect delivery.
C. Firearms must be shipped via FedEx Priority Overnight service. FedEx Express cannot ship or deliver firearms C.O.D. Firearms shipments cannot be placed in a FedEx Express Drop Box.
D. Upon presenting the package for shipment, the person tendering the shipment to
FedEx Express is required to notify FedEx Express that the package contains a firearm.
The outside of the package must not be marked, labeled or otherwise identify that the package contains a firearm.
E. The shipper and recipient must be of legal age as identified by applicable law.
F. The shipper and recipient are required to comply with all applicable government
regulations and laws, including those pertaining to labeling. The Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives can provide assistance.
G. FedEx Express will transport ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance
with local, state and federal law, and the Dangerous Goods section of this Service Guide.
Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as dangerous goods. You
agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package.
I print out a label online for FedEx shipping. When I was trying to set up an authorized pickup, I accidentally set up an account under my name using Kahr's account number, so I can order pickup and make labels, etc., when authorized. I have to remember to make sure the TO and FROM are correct... I have to change those to show shipping from my address to theirs because they are expecting it to be from Kahr to me. :)
FedEx has a .pdf file with everything in it at
http://images.fedex.com/us/services/pdf/Service_Guide_2010.pdf
page 110 concerns Firearms,

Any secret to getting Kahr to pay for the shipping? I notice that many have posted that Kahr has covered the shipping for warranty issues, while others have found no love when trying to send their pistols in. Does it depend on who you talk to at Kahr? I have had no issues but if I did I would be upset if I had to pony up for shipping!

I've had no problem:
If you're having warranty work done to make your pistol work properly and safely for CCW... life or death dependability, Kahr should pay for the shipping. You may have to insist since it's warranty work on a new gun, but be polite, and serious. That's what I've emphasized when talking to them.

This is very true. I believe if you are polite they are much more willing to help you. Always try the nice route first.

I like it! I could have used a couple cases on that cruise ship last week. There were alot of people that seriously deserved a can of that stuff.

Yeah Bawanna, it would probably work on a cruise ship, but I'd honestly be afraid to try it in a gun factory wouldn't you?

Where's your sense of adventure? No worries on the cruise boat, no guns, no knives, suprised they let us eat with forks. People mostly small statured or grossly obese. Very few in between.
Now a gun factory, we're talking reality tv here. Think pop champaigne cork and 126 guns aimed in your direction. Oh yeah!!!!

Sent my CW9 back to KAHR yesterday to get the mags to drop freely. Lots to talk about this on the forum some say their guns came back with the same prob… and some say the mags come out slicker then goose grease. I got my fingers crossed. While it may not be a big deal to some, and I agree with some of what I’ve read, “If you have to reload during a gun fight your probably somewhere you shouldn’t be in the first place. But I’m thinking of getting into I.D.P.A. I know I’m not going to be a threat for the cup. But I would like to do my best, and fast mag changes help. I hear IDPA is a good way to practice your gun handling skills. O.K. I’ll shut-up now and go sit back down, just had to add my .02
Stay safe
