This was brought up on another thread so I thought I would start one just for this subject:
There are many. Most of then are older than 30 years but one fairly recent was Open Range. It's a man's romance if you will allow me to say that. I have watched it several times. The cinematography is excellent , the stage set was meh IMHO but the dialog was outstanding. Listen to some of the cowboy wisdom--applies today as well.
Another is of course the Lonesome Dove series.
Other than that I am going further back in time.
I would have never made it in those days but come to think about it, most didn't live long. 50 yo was ancient. Seems a boy was a man by 16 yo. Had to be since middle age was like 30 yo.
Another was Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood ( I think that was the title)
What is your top 1 or 2 movie?

Unforgiven came out when I was in the hospital for a month with a broken back. A male nurse or aide or not sure what he was called asked me if I wanted to watch a movie. Since I was going stir crazy I said yeah. He brought in Unforgiven. I think I watched it 4 or 5 times in a row. Watched probably that many times or more since. Good movie.

My favorites are:
Pale Rider
Tombstone
Outlaw Josey Wales.
Unforgiven is often mentioned as one of Clint's best movies, but I just never cared for it much. Color me different.

Well those are all good movies but I think the very best western ever made has to be "The man who shot Liberty Valance"... You have The Duke, Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin (one of the all time great bad guys) and Vera Miles as Miss Hallie who cooks up steaks bigger than a 14 inch frying pan.....Great old time western I could watch every night and not get tired of it....
Next best and almost equal is the Duke's last film "The Shootist" also staring Jimmy Stewart and Lauren Bacall...Also a great movie which is a little sad because John Wayne passed away shortly after it was made way back in 1976...Wow has it been that long.....
Also have to mention "Tall in the Saddle". (can you tell I'm a Duke fan). Great old time western made way back in 1944 with good ole Gabby Hayes as Dukes sidekick....They just don't make um like this anymore
And last but not least, who doesn't love "Blazing Saddles". So stupid but hilarious...I love it when Sheriff Taggart is leading the posse to Rock Ridge and they come to the toll booth and he drawls out "Any body got a dime?...Somebody's got to go back and get a chit load of dimes.....Best comedy movie ever and can you imagine making this movie today?..no way

Magnificent Seven The one with Steve McQueen, Yul Brenner, Robert Vaughn, Charles Bronson,James Cobern
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Favorite line " Rules,,-there ain"t no rules in a knife fight." > Paul Neuman then kicks him in the nuts.
Jeremiah Johnson Scene; The fateful ride through the Indian burial ground.
The Three Amigo's Favorite Line by Chevy Chase- "One false move and I'll fill you so full of lead you can use your dick as a pencil."

Posted these in the other thread:
Jeremiah Johnson is one of my favorite western films. Redford put in a great acting performance - pretending that he actually liked & used guns as tools.
Agreed on Lonesome Dove.
The Shootist - that should've been an Oscar-winner for the Duke (I didn't care that much about true Grit).
The Searchers - another great one, but sorry - West Texas doesn't look like Monument Valley.
How the West Was Won.
Never have seen Monte Walsh.
Tombstone wasn't bad for a 1990s film.
The Sacketts.
Quigley
North To Alaska (for a humorous film).
And it is my pleasure to add...
"She Wore a Yellow Ribbon".

The story is about a horse named "Reckless" who brought weapons to marines fighting in mountainous areas.

Hi Bawanna & AIRret , (http://www.kahrtalk.com/member.php?8318-AIRret)
I've known about Reckless for long time. She was of Mongolian breed out of a Thoroughbred dam. She was a small horse. There's a statue of her at Quantico. She had four fouls the last of which died at birth.
Horses have fantastic memories about what they learn. It may be second to an elephant.
I have this thing of finding out about the horses that actors ride in movies. Two horses of interest to me were Spike that Tom Selleck road in two movies Quigley & Last Stand at Saber River and given to him by the owner / trainer. And the other is RH Tecontender, one of the six paint horses used in the movie Hildago given to Viggo Mortenson.
Then there was that really good looking Appalossa, Cochise that John Wayne rode in the movie Eldorado. I read he really disliked that horse.
I could go on and on

I don't think these have been mentioned before
Broken Trail with Robert Duvall, Tom Hadin. "We're all travelers in this world"
And the original Unforgiven with Burt Lancster, Jean Simmons, and Audey Murphy.
