To me, it makes the perfect amount of sense. Colion Noir is spot on and an awesome follow on YouTube...so is Alfonzo Rachel. They are not only wonderful assets to the black community, they are priceless assets to America. The media has been pulling teachers out of the woodwork to claim that the idea is to force teachers to carry guns. Some are also saying they will no longer teach, if armed guards or faculty become part of the school. My assumption is that they aren't exactly there for the students.

Yes, it makes perfect sense.

I'm still not a big fan of metal detectors. Maybe for schools that's the answer.
Just creates more target rich environments with even less people able to defend or fight back.
Be like going the airport, I'd have to basically get nekkid. I'm sure they'll probably have them in grocery stores and every place some day.
Leave your leatherman at home so it don't set off the detector.

I’m OK with metal detectors as long as the security guards and those faculty who want to (and are qualified to) can still carry. Metal detectors would keep the kids from sneaking in weapons and, I would hope, stop the evil people at the door.

I guess these people don't go to the airports, government buildings nor many banks.
We protect money and other material things better than we protect children, no?

Well...I can tell you exactly why they take a position of obstruction, as hypocritical as it is...but I don't believe this forum discusses politics. I know the Walther forum has a strict policy against it. Most likely their admin is not of like mind.

Schools tend to have open campusus with many many buildings. Where do the metal detectors go? Do we want airport-style lines and pat downs for our 1st graders at our schools? Once they've all passed through, there'll only be an hour left in the school day.

You might be overthinking the process. A simple walk through detector that is in every movie theater I've been in, as well as concert venues, is all that's needed as a deterrent. This is why I don't go to movies...I will not sit in a dark, public, gun free (only to law abiding) zone and be an easy target for some deranged lunatic to play target practice.
At schools, the metal detectors are a symbolic and real 1st line of defense. Start with them at main entrances. This may force a potential mass murderer to incorporate the help of a second party to assist them in getting in...increasing the conscience factor. Next, make and enforce stiff penalties for students/faculty on the inside that allow assist anyone in entry, other than approved areas.
I am not a teacher, administrator or employee of any school, but I do have some skin in the game. I am the graphic designer/painter for a gymnasium floor refinishing company. I am in schools every day from March to October, as well as several other occasions throughout the rest of the year. Some schools are lax on who comes in, some are very strict. I have several weapons at my disposal, should I be engaged with a threat...none of which will trump my prolific use of my handguns. Seeing this from my point of view in a school setting makes me think some of the employees in schools have a similar point of view and would love to be trained on top of their current knowledge...allowing them to lessen or eliminate the threat.
The state of Indiana has taken baby steps to allow me to have my firearm on school property. It is required to be unloaded with ammunition in a separate area of the vehicle. I typically park right outside a gym access door and can be out to my truck and back in within seconds. If I hear pop, pop, pop, I will be reentering the school with my loaded firearm and dealing with the legal fallout of my actions. I can live with that...I cannot live with cowardly doing nothing or worse, fleeing.

Metal detectors at a movie theatre? That's communism right?
I think some of the sports venues have them, I never attend those anyhow.
We have a venue for multiple things from Rodeos to Hockey games, to high school graduations. They check bags but so far no metal detectors.
They usually come and get me and escort me to the front and through the doors, guess they like wheelchair folks. Never checked me.
Last time to the rodeo in Reno where they also check bags, and the first time they ever actually checked me, they looked and found a leatherman in my little front bag. I pointed out every pair of jeans walking past has a knife clip showing, they decided to let me through.
Never checked under my vest for the 1911, sheath knife and 2 spare mags. Guess I was lucky. I don't like to roll around nekkid.
Most of our schools have been getting renovated and they usually make them one building rather than several which has been the norm. Now they are usually multiple story, I guess they forget the reason for the spread out one story buildings was the danger of stairs and fire egress.
With modern sprinkler systems, maybe it's not as big a factor anymore, but I'm still concerned with stairs. Have a friend my age pushed supposedly by accident and went down a flight. Been in a wheelchair for twice as long as me.
If there's a shooting I'm going in to help. They can allow me to have something to help with or we can talk about it afterwards but I'm going in.
Years ago we had a block watch, long defunct now. We talked about a little shed with like a bunker coat and helmet and even a small oxygen mask, since we have quite a long fire response time. Big hill, takes the trucks awhile to get up it.
Thinking one of us could access it and maybe help get somebody out of their burning house. Of course fire dept was dead set against it since we aren't properly trained.
I told them if a person is in a house on fire and needs help getting out, I'm going in if there's any way possible. You can increase my chance of success with some minimal equipment or watch me perish in the attempt.
He didn't think it was funny when he asked the group why we should close the door when we leave? My answer was so the firemen could chop it down with their axes?

I would imagine that these sheriffs were "properly" trained?????????? What does that mean exactly?????

Are you sure those are metal detectors? They would beep with every person's belt buckle, glasses, pens, orthodontic braces, and on and on. If they don't, then why don't airports have metal detectors that are as good as movie theaters? They need X-ray machines and wands in addition to the main metal detector.
5/3 Bank has a device you walk through that specifically searches for what it thinks are guns. It's in a vestibule and it locks the door to the lobby if it thinks you're armed. That's the only way to prevent an armed person to enter.

The more I think about it, we're on our own, need to watch where we go, be aware of our surroundings, and dont go "nekkid" as bawanna so well put it. Most times by the time the police arrive they'll be left just paperwork because the event will be over. Sad but true.
The Colonel got me thinking a few months ago about capacity and carry method and now I'm rarely less than 10 rounds of 9mm wherever I go and carry IWB. Not much pocket carry any more unless I clip my holster inside my front pocket if I've been driving and have to get out while pumping gas or something like that and in that case it's basically open carry.
Went to a "gun free" zone over Christmas and oldest son followed the rules which was probably best considering his job and any trouble could cause him issues. Me, after we left I told him I carried mine in anyway as they wouldn't know I had it unless I needed it and in that case it wouldn't matter anyway. He said what about the sign and I told him I'm old and I don't care.

.......security guards......
Reminds me of that TV commercial where the bank guard is working and the robbers come in. The bank customer looks at the guard and tells him to do something and the guard replies "I'm not a security guard, I'm a security monitor, I just notify someone if there is a problem." The guard then looks at the robbers and turns to the customer and says "there's a problem."

Come to think of it, the human race has been on its own, self defense-wise, since Cain and Able. It's only been the last hundred or so years that we've given away our safety to the government. What were we thinking?

Yep, and if you noticed in my post, they are mostly a deterrent. At times, there is a guard walking around (typically in plain clothes) a hat is probably looking for body language in reaction to the detectors. It may be that they are not detectors, but rather a placebo, deterrent system. Several are, however, the same as the ones at the courthouse and concert venues that I frequent...though they tend to have uniformed officers in accompaniment with a wand in hand to scan over patrons.

if you are talking U.S of A yeah but people have been running to the protection of the monarchy or oligarchy for ages.
Almost can't remember the last time I went through a metal detector. Given reasonable choice I shun such places as use them. Almost wrt our county Sheriff's department/Justice Center. Went there to renew my carry permit.
