View Full Version : Rear Sight not Sitting Right in Dovetail.

Anytime I buy a new firearm, I read up as much as possible about it. This seems to be just the place for info on the Kahr PM9.
I just bought my first Kahr, a NIB PM9 (PM9094N). The rear night-sight is not sitting square in the slide dovetail. The front of the rear sight is tucked tightly into the dovetail but the rear is about a 1/16" from the slide.
It would seem that if I was to tap the rear sight with a brass hammer it would possibly fall out. Also I wonder if it could affect POA at all. Has anyone else seen this?
This may be hard to visualize; I will try to get a photo latter today. Otherwise this pistol is bad to the bone.
Thanks in advance

the rear sight is adjustable for lefts and rights, so I would say if you tap it, it will not fall out. I think you will find that kahrs rear sight is just a real ***** to even move. If it was mine, I would shoot it the way it is to see POA and then proceed after that. If this is your first kahr, then at least put a few hundred rounds down range before you go moving ANYTHING. Kahr;'s trigger system is smooth but looooong by design. 3/8" to be exact. It takes some shooting to get used to the trigger system.
The rear sight will move, definitely use a brass punch to move it and even better if you had a sight pusher, it would do it without harm to sight or slide. go slowly.

For now I agree AGAIN with Jocko. I'll wait for a photo if you can get a clear one. Your diagram indicates the sight is scattywampus in the dovetail. It may or may not be tight. It may also shoot just fine depending on if material was removed from the sight or if the dovetail was cut incorrectly.
I you can't move it with your fingers or a slight tap with a brass hammer or punch and it shoots where it looks, I'd not worry about it.
I'll withhold opinion till we see a picture. First time I've heard of this.

I don't plan on moving it at the moment. I have only put 100rds through it without a single hicup (Winchester Value Pack). I didn't really get to check accuracy well as I had no target, just a box on the ground with a dot on it...
It is sitting well in all aspects except for the flat base of the sight is not making full contact at the rear with the bottom of the dovetail in the slide. It would just seem if I struck the top of the sight it would drop down in the dovetail, loosing its friction fit and then slide out from left or right.
I am only really familier with DA/SA operation of the Sig Pistols. The DA of the Sig seems similar to the Kahr in terms of length to me, just heavier.. I have some 124g Gold Dots (short barrel) on order now for carry. I will run my other box of Winchester though to accomplish the 200rd. break in, then shoot a box of GDHP through to check function.
I will get pictures later for sure.
Thanks all,

It sounds like it's not installed properly and not flush against the sides and bottom of the dovetail. It could be sloppy installation or even the wrong rear sight.
Also, the dovetail is slightly wider on the right side, so the sight should be installed and removed from that side... or from the left to the right... I just measured mine and the right is ~ .304" and the left is ~.281" holding the inside part of the caliper at about a 45° angle to the horizontal, or splitting the 90° angle made by the bottom of the dovetail and the side of the sight.
I took a bunch of photos of mine so that you can see what it should look like:

Wow, thanks for the taking the time to do this. I did not get a chance to take any photos during lunch as my wife took the camera today. I will get some tonight.
I don't want to give up my pistol for Kahr to fix it so I will keep shooting until I encounter a problem.
